I was starting to seriously lose interest in MMA but...

If someone likes MMA, how can you actually lose interest in it. I know you can get frustrated or a little uninspired but how can you lose interest.

Tennis, F1 etc is so ****ing **** in comparison. This generation is a bunch of ****ing pansys watching football or tough guy wannabes who roll around in groups trying to act tough but don't have a scooby about real fighting.

Very easily. I dont care much for UFC shows. I dont like the format and i dont find the fights as entertaining as other promotions (the promotions that are left that is thanks to the UFC's protectionist policies). Everything about the UFC image/brand is nonsense. Its basically Extreme Championship Wrestling without the steel tacks and ladder matches.

 

I'm glad to hear that you're regaining your interest but honestly if you haven't been enjoying MMA you've just been denying the fact that plenty of great fights have been happening all around us. You're in that camp that is very anti-UFC and probably even anti-WEC because of the Zuffa association but that's just your bias holding you back.

I don't care if a fight is in the UFC, Strikeforce, DREAM or the recently deceased WEC. If I denied myself any one of those outlets for MMA I would have missed something great. For instance - the final WEC show was spectacular and ended in one of those moments that can only be found in a movie.

I don't see what the big fuss is over the Strikeforce tournament other than the fact that they screwed the pooch in not matching Fedor with Overeem or Werdum in the first round. I think it's a good thing the tournament is happening but it's not a real Grand Prix. Fighters are only fighting once a night instead of two or three times a night.

The UFC forces their fighters to fight the other top ranked fighters month in and month out. They don't have to call it a Grand Prix tournament to pretend that they're going to make the fights everyone wants to see but instead give them poor alternatives. Seriously. Was anyone really desperate to see Fedor fight Bigfoot? Instead of fighting Overeem. Or rematching Werdum. Or fighting the guy that tanked an entire organization - Josh Barnett. Wouldn't any one of those fights been more momentous and exciting that what we were offered? I think so.

 

I don't get the hype behind the WGP - its nothing like the format of the old Pride tournaments or K-1. It is basically the exact same matchmaking style as the UFC uses. For example what's the difference between the strong side of the bracket and what the UFC did at UFC 118 where Penn/Edgar met in a title match and Maynard/Florian met in a number one contender's match with the winner's meeting at UFC 125?

 

Its probably the line up of heavyweights in it......

 

The UFC will always be looked at as the premiere org because the stupid people out number the smart people, its true and if you disagree guess what...............???? You the dummy.

 

It is the foresight of what is happening next and the hindsight of what got them there. Plus the x factor of anything can happen.

The knowledge that the winner of this is not just the best in SF but the best heavyweight AND arguably the best fighter in the WORLD!

I agree that semi final to final is always interesting but 8 fighters going three stages has a bit more depth to it.

There is a good side to it - there might not be multiple fights but there is also no excuses cos alot of those guys go into the next round badly beaten up.

 

Just as an aside, if tennis was like MMA, every time a player lost a point, a steel dart would be shot into their leg. The match would be over in three or four serves, and the players would not be able to play another match for two months or longer due to injury.

Who needs the epic nailbiting excitement of perfectly balanced sports like boxing or tennis or cricket that offer hours of absorbing entertainment. I personally prefer to watch two petrified men waiting for the fight to be settled by the first random flash knockdown. :tong

I'll probably never be able to get back into the UFC as long as they are under the Zuffa business model (just such a boring product, but successful somehow) and MMA on the whole was feeling played out for me, but...

The SF HW GP and the return of Bellator have me giddy.

 

If you don't watch the UFC how can you say it's boring?

 

A lot of people switched off from the UFC when Zuffa came around. Personally, I don't understand why. Obviously it became more mainstream and more sponsor and promo orientated but I much prefer it nowadays. You can attack the matchmaking and favouritism, sure, but I see no problem with what Zuffa's done with it overall.
