I was unsure about GGG, but I think he's the real deal.

At times, GGG has shown flashes of brilliance. He did an amazing job with his first fight on HBO against Proska, showing impeccable timing and dominating power.

I thought he fought a great fight against a skilled and determined Rosado, despite being hampered with an illness.

In all his other fights he showed his power by knocking out opponent after opponent, sometimes before a fight could even start.

Then, I saw him against Willie Monroe, and I wasn't buying that GGG was purposely taking more punches than he had to take, but now I realize that he fights to his level of competition.

Now, I'm not saying that Willie Monroe was a bad fighter, but he didn't have the power that Lemieux possessed, which made him less dangerous, even if stylistically, he was potentially more suited to do better against GGG than Lemieux.

I knew going into this fight that Lemieux could not fight against the likes of GGG going backwards, but I had no idea that he would be completely neutralized. I thought that Lemieux would realize early on that he had to take serious risks to take the fight on the inside against GGG, but he failed to do that.

Even when he attempted to do that, GGG fought amazingly on the back foot. Don't get it twisted, Lemieux has a very potent offense, even if he doesn't jab as much as I believe he should. There were times where he should have thrown the double jab, but GGG was so ACCURATE with his own jab, that he just completely neutralized Lemieux's offense.

Can you think of any other opponent that would be able to do that to Lemieux? There is no other fighter at that division with a jab like GGGs. That is one hell of a jab. Honestly, that's one of the best damn displays of a jab I've seen. Period.

So, where does this leave him?

Canelo will probably beat Cotto. I think Cotto can box and he has a great jab, but I still favor Canelo in the center of the ring, and I don't think Cotto has the size or the footwork to completely avoid Canelo on the outside. Nor does Cotto have the mentality to stay outside, but I can't put it past him as a veteran fighter to take minimal risks in an attempt to steal a close fight.

    Still, I think Canelo wins.

    Canelo vs GGG?

Canelo's feet are notoriously slow, and he just doesn't have the boxing ability to compete with GGG in the center of the ring. Canelo has amazing inside defense, but GGG won't give him the opportunity to capitalize because he'll only hit Canelo with shots that count to the body, and reset.

    Canelo vs Quillin?

Quillin is very dangerous because of his power, but if he manages to hurt GGG, he hasn't shown that he's willing to take the risks to finish the job. Against Lee, he could have and should have gotten Lee out of there by fighting this dude on the inside, but instead he didn't take the necessary risks, and he paid the price by letting Lee gain momentum on the outside.

I favor GGG by KO against both men.

I agree with the most, but I'm still giving the edge to Cotto against Canelo.

He's most likely fighting Andy Lee next. Cotto can't last more than Lemieux did. He doesn't have the size for middleweight, he's not as skillful as GGG, so it's only his power, a feature Lemieux was far better at. Canelo will probably wait 2-3 years before even thinking to face GGG. This is not the same with losing to Floyd on points, GGG can completely ruin his career. For the right money Quillin Jacobs winner can happen if Andy Lee fight falls through.

Quillan in no way ever deserves to be in ring with Triple G. He shamelessly dropped his belt to avoid Korobov. Then when Lee fought him and won he decides to fight Lee and he doesn't even make weight. Guy is non professional. Doesn't deserve the payday.

Lee or cotto/Canelo winner should be Trip G next fight

If Canelo/Cotto and Lee/Saunders winners are ducking, then Quillin/Jackobs winner is a decent choice. Quillin deserves to be punished for years of ducking.

Eubank Jr is another decent choice. He and his father need to get their mouths shut.

Listen, anyone with a 200-5 amateur record comes out and KO's 95% of their opponents first 35 pro fights, he's without question the real deal.

When Canelo toys and then obliterates Cotto at his leisure, people will get on his bandwagon and pick him over GGG.

Just isn't that cut and dry simple though. Cotto isn't GGG or vice versa with any opponent GGG might have dominated, none of those opponents is Canelo Alvarez.

GGG vs Canelo is one of those fights that can go either way.
I'd lean toward Canelo simply because of the level of opposition that he's faced is better than GGG's.

Canelo has faced a better variety of styles as well in tricky fighters like Austin, Lara, and Mayweather.
A fighter educates himself against those types, GGG hasn't faced such opposition.

He is the real deal. I don't see any of these fighters beating him. He KO's Cotto, Quillan and Lee. Canelo may hang in there longer but anyone who decides to trade with GGG gets KO'd, imo. Cotto is spent. Quillan is spent. Lee is spent. Canelo has a lot left. I just don't see him lasting. He may, in fact, go out early only because his tendency is to exchange.

I think GGG showed last night that he can take his game to a different level when he needs to and can also modify his style. I thought he was awesome before, but he is better than I thought.

I agree that Canelo vs GGG will be a competitive fight and an excellent display of the sweet science, but I think GGG's amateur experience makes up for what he hasn't seen in the pros.

His biggest problem is getting the biggest fights at 160.

Judah looked incredibly when he was facing sub elite LWW opposition but the minute he stepped up in competition and faced the elite of the division he was battered.

Or guys like Toney faced the best of the best but once he lost the first time his confidence took nearly a decade to recover.

Golovkin looks incredible but until we see him against the likes of Canelo or Cotto we won't know just how good he can be at MW.

In the meantime fights against Lee, Quillan, Jacobs, Eubank Jr would be very interesting.

If he destroys Cotto/Canelo I think we can rank him one of the MW greats.

I think GGG would destroy Canelo. Style wise its just perfect for Golovkin -- not dissing Canelo at all he's a great fighter. I don't think this fight will happen anytime soon, Canelo's handlers would be insane to allow this.
