I think Kirkland, Lewis, Louis, Tyson, Foreman, Wlad, Frazier and even Ali are also good examples of guys who were blasted outta there on off nights, only to comeback as strong or stronger than ever.

As a Bute fan, and based off my history of who Ive been a fan of, Im not giving up on Lucien Bootaye.

IMO, he's still the best SMW in the world, now he's just got to find that out for himself.

Currently though the list is such

    Ward:roll:
    Froch:admin
    Kessler
    Dre Dirrel
    Adonis Stevenson:deal
    Bute:-(
    Steiglitz
    Pavlik:good
    ERod
    Oosthuzen

    +1.

Holmes is an all time great and losing at the tail end of his career is nothing like this. Bute had an illegitimate title(he is a contender) and essentially lost to the second best man at his chosen weight. It's not the same thing as a champion falling from the top as he ages.

Laffie, its tough to see one of your fav fighters fall down but their are always more fights on the way. One of the best things about boxing is there are no seasons.

Did you watch the fight. You know, there's a lot more to boxing than throwing and dodging punches and cutting off the ring.

I like Teddy Atlas when he says that boxing is 90% mental. If you had a clear stream last night you would saw Lucian Bute **** his pants when he hurt Froch and Froch grit his teeth and fired back. Bute then acted as if the 2-3 straight viscious shots didn't hurt him and he dropped his hands and smiled as if to say, OK let's make it a war. That confidence lasted all of about 1/1000th of a second, when he put up the high guard and went into a defensive shell.

Your'e damned right Im saying he had 0 ****ing confidence in himself. Just like Wlad vs Sanders, Lewis vs Rahman and Foreman vs Ali.

They all lost it at different times in the fight, but each folded in the moment.

Bute will be back, and if history tells us anything, he'll be better than he ever was.

Bute looked so small and fragile compared to Froch, this was bound to happen sooner or later.

Don't chop my posts to make your point.

    Ward is CURRENTLY #1
    Froch #2
    Kessler #3
    Dre Dirrel #4
    Adonis Stevenson#5
    Bute#6
    Steiglitz#7
    Pavlik#8
    ERod#9
    Oosthuzen#10

Let's see Froch beat him pillar to post in the rematch in Montreal. If it happen again, and then Bute can't beat guys like ERod or Steiglitz.........then I'll soften my approach and call him a Magee, Bika, Green type bum. How bout that.:-(

Tbh i dont think this was so much a case of people over rating Bute, more a case of people including Bute and the media/pundits underestimating Froch. The problem is peopel always focus on the negatives and ignore the positives so we end up with situations where people come to see fighters like Froch for their flaws and then base their whole perceptions on that. Most of them same people will probally be here writing how Froch will be schooled before every one of his upcoming fights simply due to the way they cannot shake that image of a flawed person from their mind.
Bute will recover and be back and im pretty sure he wont take another fighter for granted so easily again :)

I was watching I HD on a 40" tv thanks. Saw it crystal clear.

For a start, he never hurt Froch. There is a difference in landing a hard punch and actually hurting someone. you clearly can't tell the difference. Did you see Froch wobble at any point? Did his legs buckle? No.

Bute's problem is he has poor defence and very poor punch resistance. It wouldn't matter if he was the most confident man in the world - if you can't avoid punches and you have a shakey chin then you're in trouble.

Bute was essentially a contender in the SMW division, probably ranked 3-5. He stepped up and fought the number two guy in the division and had no answer for his pressure or strength. It you want to delude yourself into thinking that Bute just lacked confidence then that's your perogative, but it's making you look like a biased deluded fanboy.

You talk like Bute was the best super middleweight in the world and just had an off night. He wasn't. He was a untested contender who had a lot of question marks hanging over him following a questionable win against Andrade.

I wasn't chopping your posts - I just selected that bit so you'd know which bit I was replying to.

You said that you still believe that Bute is the best SMW in the world.

Serious question not trolling or anything.

If Bute had just beat Froch with that amount of ease would you still be saying a rematch is needed ?

    Jesus,you're on fire tonight Chitown.
I genuinely believe I'm the best out of shape boxer in the world, even though I've never got further than sparring.
    I can beat both Klitschkos.
But I just need to find that out for myself.
