AJ put on a good performance. I thought the game plan was all wrong by his team and his corner didn't help him at all though. AJ has as much chance in the rematch as he did in this fight. Everyone knows Usyk is the better(more skillful) boxer and he demonstrated it beautifully last night, but can AJ impose himself on Usyk, he didn't even try last night. In this sort of fight AJ will have to rely on his power and strength, a good fighter is one that uses their best attributes. Why did he even bother trying to outbox Usyk? With all that said he actually boxed better than I thought he would. The obsession with degrading every fighter and their resume is so boring too. AJ has fought a lot of top fighters in the division, and beat them. He has won and he has lost. Fury has had some nights where he looks unbeatable and others where he looks like he could be beaten by poor opponents. Wilder looks like he could knock anyone out but then looks like he could be beaten by any of the other top boxers. Usyk looks incredible but looks like he might struggle with a fighter who can impose their size on him(AJ didnt even try). Also, losing to one fighter does not mean they'll automatically lose to another fighter. That is what top level boxing is, and they can all mix it, and they've all had good and bad performances. Oh and none of them are scared, they are fighters. Give it a rest with trying to make out every top boxer is not a top boxer or worse that its just because its a bad era for HW boxing.
The bold could describe any fighter, though, given a particular circumstance (e.g. a badly wounded fighter to tee off on). All fighters will land counterpunches in their careers, but that doesn't make them all counterpunchers or possessed of counterpunching ability per se. I will revisit those Whyte and Takam bouts, as promised, because I'm interested to see what you're seeing, but I maintain that the 5th round of Joshua-Klitschko is a shaky exhibit as evidence to support your point goes. We're arguing semantics, really. Joshua had no inside game to bring into play last night. Only for a very brief period did he appear to try to impose himself on Usyk in that way, and he abandoned those awkward efforts pretty swiftly, which is telling enough.
Exchanging in the pocket is infighting, even if it last a couple of seconds. This isn't Bowe vs Holyfield dude. I don't know what else to tell you Also he didn't fight on the inside because Joshua has low ring iq and has been attempting a boxer approach ever since he got beat up by Ruiz. He can't change tactics mid fight like Lennox Lewis. Regardless he did it in the past. He has infought on multiple occasions. There's no way around it. Saying Joshua can't infight is wrong
To the bold, I'm well aware. You're not obliged to tell me anything, or to concede my point — as I said above, I think this has become an argument of semantics. There isn't a boxer on the planet who hasn't exchanged in the pocket at some point in his history. If that makes them all possessed of inside game, we just have different definitions of inside game.
Joshua exchanged with guys who can fight decently at close range though, not plumbers in boxing gloves. So saying Joshua "can't" fight on the inside is wrong. No matter how you spin it
I just hate the complete and utter over reaction. Joshua was always a bum. He was never any good blah blah. Easy for people to sit behind their computers typing crap like this. Wilder admitted he ducked Joshua. Those words came right out of his mouth. Joshua clearly tried to make the fight with Fury but Fury’s team ****ed it up so now he has to fight someone he’s already conclusively beat for a third time. If I’m Fury now I’m sick to my stomach that 100 million has just been flushed down the drain. And I can’t see that fight ever happening now. And certain people on here will defend it. I still want to see the fight. Joshua isn’t beating Usyk in a rematch so assuming Fury gets through Wilder let’s see how quickly that fight gets made. Because I’ve got it’s going to be a while.
Are you unwilling to accept that we disagree and move on for now, or just bored? You believe in your position, I believe in mine (for reasons already stated, so I won't regurgitate) — though I did say, out of open-mindedness and a wish to not conduct myself with complete arrogance, that I would go out of my way to refresh my memory on two of the bouts you cited, which leaves a window to revise my views after doing so.
Joshua peaked a few fights ago. That killer instinct he had, isn't there anymore. I did predict Joshua to stop Usyk late rounds, but behind the cards. The version that fought Wlad, would have went for the stoppage against Usyk last night. His mistake against Ruiz was trying to stop him early. Not necessarily his conditioning.
can someone start posting Aj fans crying about his loss and making excuses i need to drink up the tears.
His eye was closed apparently, that's why he lost. But it opened again for the post fight press conference, which was convenient.
At his worst, AJ looked like a cagey Bob Sapp in there. The 3rd round was where the gulf in talent shone. I got worried in the 6th, but after the 7th it was pretty smooth sailing for Usyk imo.
