**** sake, just when I thought I had saw it all on Brit ESB:shock:

A mainstay of ESB, respected & IMO a legendary poster like Strike getting absolutely torn to shreds by a baying mob for having the balls to tell it like he saw it regarding David Haye, who Strike admits himself is his favourite fighter!

Hayemania has now officially entered the Brit ESB building.

I was here all those years ago when Hattonmania swept this forum like a rash, & anyone who didnt agree that Ricky was the hardest man on the planet was shouted down by the blinkered bozo brigade... looks like Haye is now the new Hatton of Brit ESB!

To be fair to Haye, I think hes a better fighter than Hatton, but I have thrown the comparison out there... Take from it what you will, from an old skool ESB brit Forum poster who was posting here when most of you guys who are slaughtering Strike right here & now were still in their nappies.

have to agree with strike - it wasnt a disciplined performance and quite a few problems. a lot of the problems though were because he was so keen to please the home crowd to build his stock though i'm sure. he was too keen to get the KO so it was just constant right hands to the head - but also this is because it was his strategy for ruiz. despite all the talk about him not underestimating ruiz, it was clear haye was more worried about winning in style as he knew he had the beating of him. all in all, no need to worry too much as i reckon if haye was fighting a kltischko he would be far more disciplined.
wish he would have thrown more body shots though - its just he's so keen to get out of there before getting hit he doesn't throw combos.

Noob, you'd have a point if everyone was ripping into strike, but they are not.

I more than doubt Haye can do what he does now at Vit's age, 38/39.

I give haye credit. he's a good hw and proved to be alot smater inside the ring than i thought capable especially after the wild Barrett fight.

I still would like to see him take on some better/fresher opponents like the Arreola/Adamek winner or Sam Peter. If he could the same to them as he did to Ruiz, I'd be very impressed.

Touting Haye as an amateur? Considering he most likely should have been selected for the olympic team on his amateur form that's hardly insightful.

On your other points. Haye is ALWAYS wild when he has a man on the verge of quitting. it's what he does and it will never change. And calling a man lazy when he's gassed is just plain bizarre. His stamina is poor and loading up on shots is incredibly strength sapping. It's no surprise he takes the odd round off.

My, how delightful. But utterly, utterly irrelevant.

Yeah right. That's why you claimed you weren't impressed at all. If you could find NOTHING in that performance to impress you then I stand by my original comment. Go and watch another sport, cause you obviously don't appreciate this one.

Again, this is Haye. What was that quote a few years back 'When I fight I'm either knocking the guy out or getting knocked out'. I don't see how you can claim haye as your favourite yet somehow see this as some fatal flaw that will stop him reaching his potential. All the things you're moaning about are what makes watching Haye so good.

The best way to judge people is by their own standards. You claim you're going to rip through a division Koing every body then expect some criticism when you throw about 10 punches during a 12 round snoozefest. You shouldn't expect criticism for actually doing it.

A discussion of what he's doing wrong and how he might come unstuck against better fighters is perfectly valid. Nit-picking what was a pretty good, and quite exciting performance, isn't.

Nonsense. I can't see anyone claiming Haye is great, just that it was a good performance.

And since when did time served on the internet count for anything? I've been on it since it was about a dozen pages long. Do my posts get extra points for that?

Dunky theres is no comparison whatsoever between Haye and Hatton. If fans want to jump on the next big thing let them. Hatton was unique in that in the eyes of his fans he could do no wrong. In terms of style and the way they were both promoted and their subsequent fights theres ZERO comparison.

I believe his stamina is poor because he doesn't do enough road work, he is lazy in his preparations. He has always had a tendency to be like that, but is not as bad as he used to be. Before the Thompson fight he did basically zero running or stamina training. He has made improvements in this and obviously due to his heavy muscling he is never going to have 12 rounds of all out action in him, but he could prepare better and he could do more in rounds by using his jab.

The fact that he always rushes his opponent, wastes a load of energy and shots and smothers his own work is hardly therefore something that cannot be criticised. It is not like a technical thing that is almost impossible to iron out at this stage.

It's not irrelevant when the tone of the majority of criticism is that I am hating on Haye and have a General Forum attitude of simply slagging off a fighter after a successful performance for the sake of it.

Give that I have already said I should have worded the title better and that in hindsight it was a bad choice of phrase, the above is irrelevant now and was already when you chose to write it.

All the things I am moaning about are what makes Haye good to watch? So the the things I complained about are as follows...

    - Not using his jab more to set up the right hands

    - Not going to the body more when the opponent is covering up and backed up

    - Not giving himself room to finish a hurt opponent and instead rushing in wildly and thus allowing the guy to see out the round

    - Not working on his stamina and wasting energy in wild attacks so that he has to take entire rounds off where he barely throws a punch

Now you might disagree with the criticisms but how can any of those be said to be what makes Haye great to watch? Doing nothing for 2 consecutive rounds. Not using the great jab that he has to open up gaps and be able to land his heavy right cleaner and more easily...not being cooler and thus winning by a first round KO rather than a 9th.

You just decided to have a pop and in doing so you weren't even arguing against my points, just arguing against me.

And I didn't criticise him for the Valuev fight because he broke his hand in the second round. Perfectly valid reason for fighting how he did for the rest of the bout.

Fair enough, and as I said the tone I used was a bad call on my part, but the points made in the opening post were valid.
