Did joshua get knocked out? He survived and came back. He threw over 200 big loaded up punches in 3 rounds, he was gassed and hurt, he got himself back together, recovered and wiped whyte out,
Joshua has power, no doubt. He just needs to pick his shots more carefully and use the jab. He's used ti finishing guys off when he has them hurt, so getting rocked in round two should teach him a lesson. As usual, people overreact to everything and write guys off on the basis of them taking a punch but Joshua should learn and improve from this.
I was not impressed at all. He's very stiff and flatfooted, that cuban who schooled him in olympics would clown him again
Most heavyweights don't seem to have a good chin. They've all been hurt. Vlad, fury, Joshua, haye, povetkin, pulev, Ustinov, wilder, arreola, takam, perez , Who at heavyweight has a good chin? Stiverne and jenninga I suppose do. Who else has a good chin and who doesn't. It seems to me a chin is irrelevant at heavyweight. Cause anyone can KO anyone. Its all about the recovery skills. But I suppose the best chin is the one that doesn't get hit
he didnt go down / he did earmuffs ala holyfield and lennox in the second rd / didnt go for the ko after 3 rd....and became focused as the fight went on ...i was impressed because he won and wasnt shannon briggs against darrol wilson/ one other poster said he was flat footed and i would have to agree with that statement tonite
Finally, this was a fight where Joshua could learn things. He learned to adapt and he gained more experience in this fight then in his previous 14. My concern is that he doens't have any head movement which makes him very easy to hit. He needs to work on that. He has the power, but still needs to learn the boxing skills. In my view he's not world class yet, but still a huge prospect and a future star.
Joshua has only fought 30 something rounds as a pro. Never been hurt as a pro until last night. I thought he did well, got clocked, recoverd and considering hes never gone past 3 rounds before and the fight went at a good pace for that weight he wasnt gassed to nothing after 6 and a half rounds. Yeah he has flaws, some he will sort out with time and experience and some he will keep through his career, EVERY boxer in the top 20 of every division has flaws of one kind or another. Helps make the sport interesting. Joshua will be a big presence at the top end of this division, Hope Whyte doesnt disappear into obscurity now though.
It wasn't his usual domination, that's for sure. But overall he looked good, he took a good shot, clinched, fired back then took a round off and took control again. He showed he's a good mid range fighter and a decent inside fighter for a guy his size, his body shots and uppercut were impressive. But he was too aggressive, especially in that 2nd round. When he took the 3rd round off to recover and reassess his approach he took far too many shots. He seems to be a guy in control when he gets off first but when he allows his opponent to get off first and dictate the pace he looks troubled. He needs to learn to control fights without being the aggressor. Use more movement, clinch, control range with the jab better. On the positive, he didn't look like he was struggling with the distance or the pace, he showed he had one shot KO power later in the fight as well. But he clearly still needs to work on the defensive aspects of his game, so he isn't forced to always be the aggressor to be in control.
People are too desperately trying to see glass jaws in each and every wobble of a fighter. If you get clocked by a 250lbs fighter its not unusual to be on shaky legs. Not a sign of pure glass.
Joshua got the win so no harm done but I was very impressed with White. He really knows his staff and is hard as it gets. Those scorecards were too wide, I gave at least two rounds to white and many rounds were close to even.
