I really thought Whyte could have had him in that second round but he seemed to stand off Joshua and allow him recovery time, that was a big mistake, he should have emptied the tank on him. Would have won me a sizable bet I had on him if he had, maybe.
Joshua is an erection, big, stiff and sluggish after a few rounds. He has no business as a world class fighter, although he is still in the early stages I dont see the gap where he can reach the level required, even in this era.
Whyte DID give everything he had left in the tank with wobbly legs in second round. It just wasn't enough against Joshua, because he was not able to land those Wilder -like hooks in the target after the one bulls eye he got through.
He is going to walk over the likes of Wilder, Klitschko + anyone with size disadvantage like Povetkin. Only heavy weights I can see giving problems for Joshua are the mobile and quick men with stamina like Tyson Fury. Maybe David Haye, though Haye might be too small to really challenge this powerhouse. Haye's performances against Klitschko and Valuev were not very impressive.
Joshua's first 15 opponents are much better than Wilder's first 30 opponents combined. His management and progress has been much better than Wilder's at the prospect stage of both of their career's.
Didn't really look to me like Joshua was gone. His legs were stiff, but his base was still solid, and Whyte was throwing everything he had at him, but there didn't look to me like he was ever going to get him out there.
I think it was important for him to get hurt a bit. A good lesson for him. More to the point though, his didn't really look like he was going to go down and Whyte is quite a bit puncher so I think it's fair to say he isn't Price II. Seen people saying he went 'life and death'. Not really. Round 2 aside he won everything quite clearly imo. Has plenty to improve on though. Head movement needs working and his lateral movement could be a little better. As mentioned I think he could do with going for the kill a little less How Whyte does after this will show how good a victory it possibly is
I disagree, he drags his feet everywhere and it isnt half as good as he needs to be, someone like haye who can move a little will give him trouble and knock him out, he does not fight relaxed enough and even as a pro is admiring his shots, he seems to get frustrated also when his big shots do not take his opponent out, not a very good trait to have. Young Bruno was as muscle bound yet much better at this stage of his career. He has to reset and cant punch and move very well unless it is in straight lines. Povetkin would pressure him and he really wouldnt have an answer. I would like to see a rematch, I would also like to see him face King Kong, and Chisora. He will struggle with anyone with a decent jab who is lucid enough to punch on the fly.
Whyte did go for KO after he caught Joshua with the counter left hook. He threw several big power shots and forced Joshua onto the ropes but I think he tired and didn't have enough left in the tank to really put anymore pressure than he did.
Very good points and I was thinking exactly the same watching early fight against Whyte. However, from 3rd round on Joshua started jabbing and Whyte could not execute anything adter that. Joshua has obvious flaws in boxing ability, but I don't think we have maybe ever seen as powerful heavy weight with decent enough skill set. Foreman maybe, but even big George is SMALL compared to Joshua. Think about that for a second... Joshua does not need head movement with his reach, height and power against most men. He only needs to find his target and game over. Fury would probably school him at this stage, but that's about it. The modern medical science creates amazing creatures.
Based on what evidence does Joshua have chin issues? The fight against Whyte actually proved that he has a solid chin... If you are 2 meters tall and have reach of 220 cm with 120 kg pure muscle and have good punching technique you can be as stiff as you like and it does not prevent you being succesful in even the highest level of heavy weight boxing.
