Personally, I didn't think Norton needed the 15th to win the rubber - BUT, putting that aside since it isn't my point, in what universe would it ever be prudent for Norton NOT to go out and fight for all he was worth anyway? I understand when there are risk factors involved (eg - vs reputable KO punchers)- so sometimes it's better to play it safe when you have an undoubtable lead. But over their 3 fights and particularly in the rubber, Ali never really hurt Norton badly, let alone come close to putting him down.

Muhammad Ali used to-and a lot of people don't know this-some of the so-called experts-these guys-don't even know this about him but the thing is this: Ali used to go by the name Cassius O'Peia. He also HATED that name, because it was Irish. Before he would laugh and joke about how Irish he was later on, he would be ENRAGED if people called him that, he hated the Irish! Can you believe it? This guy? He's so Irish but he hated 'em. It's a disgrace. An absolute and total disgrace and Ken Norton-good old Kenny Norton, great guy, love him, American hero, one of the very best guys-you want to talk about a great guy, a great sportsman and businessman? Ken Norton! This guy, we had the most beautiful chocolate cake together, it really was delicious, he said he never had-nobody ever did-any better chocolate cake than we did, let me tell you, and anyway, this was before the economy crashed, it was doing great, flour-they make chocolate cake from flour-coco powders, also an ingredient, those things were far cheaper, you could make and bake the best chocolate cakes then, they were not expensive, unlike now, but he-listen, he fought Ali, called him his own Irish name to his own Irish face and Ali was just so upset with him-so mad. That was after he converted. Ali was very upset, not a nice man, very mad, angry all the time, he didn't like Norton or Frasier, both had Celtic names, if you can believe it, they were Celtic, very strongly, really, some of the toughest Celtic men who ever-both of them loved the chocolate cake we had at the-...Well, this was the famous what's-my-name-?-fight anyway. Great fight, but Norton's answer was "Cassius O'Peia" and America just fell in love with Kenny Norton, let me tell you.
