Not 1 person there felt that Pascal won. I took a trip up there with the girlfriend for the wknd, and after being unable to score some tickets to the fight, I decided to watch it at a sports bar on St. Catherine St.

When the fight was over, there was not one person around me who felt Pascal won. Even the waiter who was serving me drinks said that Hopkins got screwed. Cheers to them.

Yeah, but the problem with these kinds of opinions is that almost no one in the bar took a note pad and scored the fight. A fighter may totally dominate 6 rounds and lose the other 6 really closely and the fight would be a draw even if he won in the public eyes. Hopkins-Pascal was a close fight because (and only because) of the 2 knock downs. I had Hopkins winning, but really closely so I don't think Hopkins got robbed.

Most people seem to have it 114-112 Hopkins, which means a 1 point difference equals a draw. So with a 1-round swing it can't be a robbery, it could have gone either way. However, most of the rounds were pretty easy to score, so it's a shame bhop didn't get an SD.

Other than George Foreman who I guess was a very likeable guy that many people were rooting for, the powers that be seems hell bent on not allowing one of the "OLD" fighters capture a belt. First Holyfield gets robbed now this.

Yeah people aren't biased the judges aren't biased. They know there boxing in Montreal, which is way more then almost anywhere else in North America can say. I didn't go out to watch the fight but the general feeling from the people I talked too in Montreal this weekend was that it was a close fight and that they're happy with the draw. Because of the knock downs no one I talked too really thought Hopkins got screwed.

Me personally I wasn't scoring the fight when I watched it but at the time I was happy with the draw and pretty much thought that was the fairest out come. Now having been totally objective and having watched the fight a couple of times and scored it I actually think once you factor in the knock downs Pascal probably edged it. I give rounds 1,3,5,8 and 12 to pascal with the second round being even. Thats 114 - 113 for pascal. I believe Antonio Tarver had the same score but he gave the second round to pascal. No robery here. Hell if anything the judges in Quebec were very fair making this a draw.

    P.S. Jim Gray's an asswhole.

    rounds 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 12 were all close rounds that could go either way. Especially 5, 8, and 12.

    1 and 3 are both 10-8 rounds.

Like I said before, any other country the hometown fighter would've won that decision easily.

I was at the fight and everyone around me thought Pascal won it.

Oh yeah its totally a bull**** story...You'll notice the thread starter say he watched the fight in Montreal after driving up there and not being able to score tickets....that is complete crap considering the fight was in Quebec City. NOT MONTREAL. So either his story is complete bull****....or he drove the the wrong City to try to get tickets.... Sorry but I smell ==> Bull****:nono

That being said no one in montreal is venomously defending Pascal just because pascal's from quebec. Despite what Jim Grey will have you believe the people up here don't have blinders on. Quebec has a bad reputation but like phil said above any other country and the hometown fighter wins a clear decision.

Actually, I think Canadians in general take a liking in criticizing their stars. Habs, Bute/Pascal, soccer... only GSP and the Alouettes (generally) get zero bad mouthing / criticism. Montreal media are a bunch of drama queens too.

I find the BHop-got-robbed attitude at the bar reasonably credible. When the Habs lose after 2, you can hear the stupidest things being said out loud in the bar, and hear constructive criticism at the tables. All throughout the 3rd. Little analogy with Pascal trailing BHop after the 10th... I for one did not give the 12th to Pascal, and ended up with 114-112 Hopkins.
