I watched the ref allow Alexis Arguello to be beaten to an inch from death, but Kov gets stopped?

This is what I don't understand about boxing. Inconsistent stoppages and reffing. A good example is the absolute savage beating Aaron Pryor gave Alexis Arguello in the 14th round. Arguello was exhausted and busted up and Pyror was like the GOAT gas tank and just pummeled Arguello the whole round. Won't get into the whole bottle thing, but the non stop stamina thing was questionable and weird. Pyror even put him on the ropes and he's beating Arguello to death and then the ref FINALLY stops it.

Then Arguello slumps to his knees in an awkward position on the ropes and he's just completely destroyed by Pryor. You could say that because of the extreme regard that Arguello was held in that the ref allowed him every chance to win the fight. But Kovalev was also one of the highest regarded fighters in the world. Certainly along with Ward the best regarded upper weight class fighter in the world by a long shot. And the ref stops the fight due to Kovalev's exhaustion and dubious low punches from Ward. Doesn't make sense.

Then you hear about those non televised cards or even club fighters getting a $1000 dollar purse and the ref allows these men to be beaten like an animal. So the highest regarded LHW to come around in a long, long time gets a dubious stoppage? But we let guys like Arguello almost die or some security guard get beaten to a pulp?

Sergey deserved to be beaten like Arguello was to warrant a stoppage. He earned that. Just my thoughts on the stoppage.

I watched the 9th round of Ward-Gatti 1, and the last 3 rounds of Matthysse-Molina.

    Weeks is a disgrace.

I watched round 12 of Uysk-Hunter. That was abominable reffing, if that was Weeks he'd have stopped it the moment Hunter's butt hit the ropes.

Who am I kidding, Weeks would have let it continue, he only stops fights when a dangerous KO artist, who's arguably up on points has been momentarily stunned against a featherfisted US Gold Medalist vying to be the P4P Number 1 fighter in the world is viciously punching him in the balls repeatedly.

    What the **** was that?

Did the referee miss a foul and then watch a fighter put himself in a hands-down indefensible position? Because that's what happened in the Kovalev fight.

Kov had the fight beaten out of him. He couldn't even clinch and he didn't take a knee. He was done. He was relieved that the fight was over.

At what point did you see Arguello turn his back and take a submissive position sitting on the rope? Hmm, that would be the 14th round right, when it was stopped? Well it only took Kovalev 8 rounds to submit

Lol someone is so gay for Ward that they conveniently ignore the fact that he's a dirty piece of **** who has to resort to low blows, headbutts, elbows, and every possible advantage in pre-fight negotiations to be weighted in his favor to win the type of fight he wants to fight. There's a reason why Ward never leaves the US, because its the only place he can get away with his bull**** without being DQ'd. **** off you c***.

The Arguello-Pryor fight was stopped maybe 2 or 3 punches late, but damn we're talking about one of the greats in history going for history, I'd have been torn to halt a fighter like Arguello a little prematurely if I was the ref.
Surely the ref wanted to give Arguello every opportunity.
Unfortunately for Arguello and boxing, the persons who didn't give Arguello a fair opportunity were named Aaron Pryor and Panama Lewis.

Ward vs Kovalev was a different matter. A matter of a ref named Weeks giving Andre Ward every benefit and letting punches on the lower half of the belt line and below go as legit.

I wouldn't have such a problem with Weeks letting go of the low blows before the final 3 well below the belt, if there was a consistency in boxing to call blows on the belt line legal.
There's been so many instances where refs call a shot just grazing the upper part of the beltline illegal, then on other occasions as was the case with Ward vs Kovalev, Weeks lets a punch that lands on the lower half of the belt line go as legit.

A punch that lands on the upper line of the belt is illegal, but one that lands on the lower line is legit?????
Its called boxing politics. Boxing is a sport where they allow the politics to control the circumstances and doesn't enforce the rules as written. Whats a foul in one fight all of a sudden isn't in another.
HBO sports and their politically crazed announcing team play the same game.

Its boxing, the powers that be decide who gets a fair shake and beyond and who doesn't!

Ward didn't land on the balls, and landed belt line blows. Legal. Kov rabbit punched and was warned. Two of todays great fighters fighting in a very tough fight. True battle of wills and Ward broke Kov. There is no shame in that. There's more shame in the excuses made AFTER this fight. Utter shame.
