I will miss the ITV4 show format

ITV4 pisses all over FFN to be truthful.

 

FFN is a pretty poor show with good fights, It could easily be put into a 3 or even 3 and a half hour show and show more of the undercard, I mean the cameras are there recording, the commentators are commentating on each fight why not show more of it ?

 

I find it hard to listen to people who didn't read my post properly. I was talking about the format of the programme, not the fact that Boxing would be gone off ITV4.:roll:

Point being that how good the format is can depend on the quality of the fights. Take Hennessy's first few fights on ITV4 and the undercards were solid, and it was nice to see them live in the build-up to the main event.

But the last 6 months or so have had dire undercards. Superbad Barnes, other so called 'prospects' who should still be in the amateurs and Hennessy's 'jobs for the boys' approach at times.

How many casuals would have started watching The Big Fight Live, and got fed up before the main event and switched over, or just switched on for the main event? Thats not ITV4's fault, as much of a dick that Gabriel Clarke seems to be the, the roaming stuff worked. It was just less patronising when Andy Kerr or Rob Walker did it. Thats Fat Micks fault. His shows recently would fit perfect in to a FFN-style 2 hour slot, while good shows by Maloney and Warren are being squeezed in to as small a space as possible by sky.

Admittedly you get a similar problem with FFN. People would just watch the main event and switch off, so you've got to get that balance. If Mick had produced some of the good undercards and 'pick 'em' main events we've (half) seen on FFN this season, you get the feeling the viewing figures would have been consistently higher, and he might not be out of a TV contract.

The BFL format works, but with a lot of the sky shows, and not Hennessy's drab evenings and I won't miss it on those types of nights.

It's a shame that ITV4 have decided to pull out of Boxing, it really is. But you can't blame them. In this tough economic climate, BFL isn't getting that many more viewers than Auf Wiedersehen pet or a film would on that slot so its just not that economically viable for them. If Hennessy had continued his good run of shows like he started with last year we may not be in this situation. But we are, so we've got to live with it unfortunately.

 

i have a feeling that because frank warren has no sky contract [except with his ppv with khan] that warren could make a come back next year with itv, and that itv are finishing with fat mick so they can deal with warren...well i hope so anyhow

 

The format on ITV4 has been excellent and - specialist subject stating the bleeding obvious - many casual fans are going to miss out now it's no longer going to be on.

At football yesterday quite a few people were talking about the fights, no-one had seen all of the show (including me at that stage) but the profile of boxing was high. I bet more will have seen Darren Barker's fight then Amir Khan's next week.

There are annoying bits to it but to bemoan them would be pointless, going to be a a big loss I think.

Hope you're right irishhitman and we get some back next year with Warren, but I doubt it.

 

Doesn't seem to be the case. ITV have been hit by the recession and are cutting back wherever they can. They are even thinking of making ITV2/3/4 subscription based.

Hopefully late next year or early 2011 they will pick up a boxing contract.

However, the point i am trying to get acrss is that i don't give a **** what channel boxing is on, or how it is presented, as long as all the bull **** is a pre cursor to me being able to watch two fellas go at it.
The fact the are less mainstream outlets willing to do this on a regular basis is worrying.
So all i am saying, as good as itv4's coverage is, i would watch boxing if it was presented by robbie from eastenders as long as it is on!

 

I will just miss a bit of boxing on tv tbh, their production wasn't all that.

It's sad really the sport of Boxing is like Mike Jackson when he was alive......at their primes they were the undisputed top of any charts(Mike in the 80s) boxing back in the golden ages of the 50's 60's 70's 80's. Due to mismanagement and down right weirdness(the skin bleaching, FanMan and Tyson earbiting etc) they both took Public relation hits, but on the BEST day...(Manny vs Floyd or any mike album)
