I wocht Duran vs Benitez

No surprise to see there are actually some posters in here truly deluded and stupid enough to think this was anything other than a one-sided schooling in Benitez's favour, but I suppose we shouldn't really expect anything less from a Duran apologist.

 

tnly reson Duran lost was becuz he didnt do ****. i wouldnt be surprised he let that ****** win. Benitez is way overrated. what was so good about him? He had no fire, and wasnt the best boxer, not by a long shot

 

it was a close fight. Or let's put it this way - the rounds were close even though Benitez probably won more rounds than Duran. I always heard Benitez beat him so clearly and Don King told Duran to retire after this fight, but when I actually watched it myself, I was puzzled because it was a close fight.
The thing is this: Duran was blowing guys out at lightweight and at 154 against Benitez he was never able to hurt him. But that has also to do with the craft of Benitez who cannot be hit cleanly (just like Duran himself) and at 154 Duran was not a monster anymore. So - people thought Duran was shot just cause he couldn't put Benitez away. I thought the fight was close, I read somewhere Bert Sugar said Duran only won one round and I did not quite understand that even though I respect his opinion.
I felt almost every round was close.
