The whole thought that Ring has been compromised has yet to be substantiated. The guys at Ring take their position seriously and know the consequences of sacrificing their journalistic integrity. It wouldnt be good business sense from DLHs perspective to do so either. In general, the Ring doesnt delve deeply into controversial decisions. They want to promote the sport and besides the alphabet title mess do not go too deeply into behind the scenes corruption.
i am aware that the ring mag has yet to be compromised but also feel that its just a matter of time. If they don't outright criticize it then its ok but if they give him any sort of credit for this performance then something is up
I hope it doesnt. Its just some people criticize them after robberies for ranking the fighters as having deserved the victory. Thats just b/c going by their own scores would open up a ridiculous can of worms.
The website doesn't have a report on the fight but it does have a report of the other two televised fights from last night.
Ring magazine was compromised all to hell and back, it just hasn't happened since the new ownership, I think is what you're trying to say. Don't you guys know your history?
I can honestly say that I enjoy reading the Ring Mag, but am getting tired of their DLH ass kissing in the first few pages. I respect DLH a lot, but come on, the mag loses some credibility over that.
They were very kind to Oscar in his big "retirement interview" but I honestly haven't noticed them showing any bias whatsoever to Oscar and GBP. I'm surprised people expected some big change, like Oscar on the cover every month and GBP fighters suddenly shooting up the rankings. Schaefer and Oscar are businessmen - they would have to be idiots to try and influence the editorial content of Ring - the magazine would lose all credibility and their investment would eventually be worthless. I guarantee they wouldn't care if Ring was overly hard on them in every issue as long as it's making them money.
There was the retirement piece, yes, but also in the Feb issue they had the piece on him opening that Charter school in LA. I'm not saying it's not newsworthy, just seems a bit biased coming from his own magazine. Again, I still enjoy reading the mag for the other boxing stories.
In fairness, I think they usually print stories about boxers doing good in the community etc. Vernon Forrest I'm sure was featured (quite rightly) for the good work they did. I think if you look for it, you might see things that could be perceived as biased but I don't think they've given GBP a disproportianate amount of coverage. Hopefully this won't change because, like you, I enjoy reading it.
