I wonder why Joe Calzaghe was never offered millions for his return to boxing?

He was at the height of his career coming off of beating 2 ATG's in Las Vegas and New York and was making career high paydays. As popular as he was to Brits I wonder why no network ever offered Joe anything to keep going?

Like Khan is he only able to beat old guys like Eubanks, Roy, and Hopkins? Was the cocaine habit of his getting in the way of training? Beef with his former promoters keeping him in court?

Many ?'s no anwsers. I watched his documentary lately and I like his back story, but Joe was afraid of a real challenge it seems after getting dropped by a KO riddled Jones and a AARP member Hopkins.

How dare you compare Joe Calzaghe to that worthless bum Khan. Joe's wins early in his career far exceed anything Khan has even come close to achieving.

Its obvious why Calzaghe wasnt offered mass money to come back.

He was unbeatable and would damage the record and potential of any active fighter.
Just imagine it would be a promoters nightmare. They have an undefeated world champ who is looking like P4P material and then they get dominated by a retired Calzaghe.

Even now all these years later Calzaghe still casts a shadow over SMW and LHW

He ducked Chad Dawson, Pavlik and Froch to fight a 50 year old man and a shot, punch drunk former great.

Nobody is gonna offer him millions to fight Nathan Cleverly or Cloud.. :rofl

to be fair, everyone except hardcore faileys have seen thru the smoke and mirrors of Wassen setups now and do not wish to pay to be cheated like joe and frank did to themf or years.

joe was the architect of his own demise, the endpoint of all who try to claim 40something life ndeath scraypes are their career highpoint.

Different era. Zaggers didn't fight in the social media era, so his brand never really got built up beyond the die hards and too much time has passed since retirement.

He had a walking around weight of around 192 pounds, and it was a struggle for him to make SMW, especially in the latter stages of his career. Joe was a big guy. He could have fought at LHW whenever he'd have wanted.

he was too featherfisted for LHW though, and would ave surely failed in that division. joe needed the embryonic division like smw, and on top of that the unwanted title in that division.

To date, joe cowardzaghe is the only LHW in history whose LHW resume consists entirely of 40somethings or those days from 40something. Actually he is the ony fighter in history whose entire resume in a division consists of such aged fighters. NOT A GREAT CLAIM TO FAME.

I think he could have found success at LHW in the 00's. His style would have caused lots of fighters issues.

Apparently, he'd been getting comeback offers for years after he retired, including one from Ward's team in 2013.

Because he wasn't a big star.

Joe took on challenges in Eubank, Lacy, Kessler and Hopkins. Unlike many others, he was just smart enough to know when to retire.
