He has one fight left, why does he need warren.

In time it will read that he broke away from warrens Cans, to make the big fight everyone wanted with Jones*

    Sad, but true.

Can only be one reason....get rid of warren..he dont need him and therefore can pocket all the money for himself that would have been warrens cut. It does stink really, Joe is just as bad as warren when it boils down to it. Theres obviously no loyalty whatsoever here.

Warrens probably taken a huge backhander in the deal....

In the long term it makes Calzaghe looks good..

None will remember it was just for one last fight.

Calzaghe will get as much credit as Hatton did for breaking away much sooner.

    What a joke.

Warren was pushing hard for the Pavlik fight. Warren and Arum were in serious discussion about the fight. I can't blame Joe. This is win/win for him. He doesn't have to end his career with a loss and he'll make more money. No need for Calzaghe to risk his health, his "0", and lose out on some of that change by staying with Warren and fighting Pavlik. So what if Roy is a geriatric has been who struggled with a guy that Andre Dirrell strached in 6 rounds. This will be a nice cash out fight for the Pride of Wales. Happy trails Calzaghe. It will be sad to see you go. No one else has been able to build up such a succesful career by beating such a wide array of straight up and down Euro stiffs.:good

I'm a Calzaghe-hater, can't wait to see Jones knock out the Welsh Happy Slapper!...I'm 20years old, thats a year old than the "World Title" he's held for so long, and tell me when "Ring Magazine" became a governing body which makes Calzaghe a two weight world champion...he's slapped his way to victory for years, I can't take away victories over Eubank, Lacey or Kessler, they were hard fought victories, it must be tiring slapping all night long. Hopkins was robbed there, that was the perfect Hopkins fight, when did defence not become an art, I weeped with joy when I seen Calzaghe get floored by the sweet right hand of Bernard!

Jones will make Calzaghe look like an amateur even though the majority thinks he's past it. I for one can't wait to make the journey to Cardiff to watch Jones KO JC in the 5th!

    preach it brutha!

Best case scenario: Roy beats joe by a wide UD, and then Pavlik starches Roy!

To get 100% of the fight purse, instead of giving like 40% to Warren the greedy ****.

Hatton fired him for literally stealing his money, I'm guessing there is a similar reason here.

Warren seems like a greedy old cvnt.

The correct and very obvious answer is that Calzaghe wants his remaining fight(s) on PPV in the UK and being with Warren precludes that.

He's seen Hatton's PPV numbers (Hatton v Mayweather had 50% more PPV buys in the UK than the same fight in the US and more than any boxing event in the US last year except De La Hoya v Mayweather) and wants a piece of that.

And he didn't really fire Warren, the contract had expired, he chose not to renew it.

Probably because for having a title for 10 years, Joe doesn't have near the cash you'd expect from it. Running the promotion along with being the headlining fighter will make him tons more cash. It's the same reason De la Hoya makes much more off of promoting his own fights than if he were just another fighter with Don King or Arum taking their cut.

If the fight with Roy is a success in terms of revenue, Joe could basically match his current career earnings with this fight alone. Getting the promotor's cut from the live gate alone is going to be a nice chunk of change since it'll probably happen in Wales.

take a step back about 11 or 12 years.

calzaghe promoted by micky duff since his pro debut , just about ready for a world title shot.

in comes warren and poaches calzaghe off micky duff , not giving a **** and calzaghe showing no loyalty to duff.

now back to present and calzaghe realising he does not need warren and is not in any contract leaves to go his own way and promote himself.

    warren did it to duff.
    calzaghe doing it to warren.

warren knows its a dog eat dog world, just he is used to being the alsatian and not the poodle.

i wonder if he will pull the "we had a verbal contract" somewhere down the line and start legal action, like he did to hatton? although didn't warren drop the case against hatton.

    Lots of exaggeration here.

    Calzaghe didn't fire, sack etc

He was out of contract and decided not to extend. No drama there really.
