http://www.lasvegassun.com/photos/galleries/2009/may/20/mccall-hopoate lol McCall is done. I won't be surprised if he lost a UD or as a matter of fact, TKOd in the late rounds. McCall still has the power I think, but hes just to slow now to do anything. I never seen Hopoate guy but seems like he has some power, it could trouble McCall who hasn't fought in over a year and a half. I might do a small bet on this maybe... just maybe tho. I wanna see how much old man McCall weighs now. Hopoate sparring partners were Brewster for starters.
hopoates been stopped in the first round and been down against poor opposition.i think mccall wins this.hes lucky hopoate cant get his fingers through the gloves
True, but if this Hopoate guy has any skills and a brain, he can outbox McCall to points win. McCall isn't even half of what he was when he fought guys like Lennox and Maskaev in the 90s.
I can't wait to see how he does, McCall is one of my favorite fighters so it'll be good to see him back in the mix again. That and it'll be interesting to see how good his son is (he's on the undercard).
You gotta admit Potatoe is a pretty bitchin name. All we need is a guy named Tomatoe in the heavy division and we'll be set.
McCall's best days are past him. I would have loved to see him fight Klitschko, but he lost that shot to Gomez.
Depends how much McCall has deteriorated... Hoppa isn't really much of a fighter mind you. If he wins this, theres still no chance of him ever winning a proper world title.
Hopoate is a crude slugger, he was down on points to Big 270lb aussie Bob Mirovic on 2 scorecards and stopped Mirovic in the 9th. Many decent heavies including an over 40 Frans Botha easily outpointed Mirovic as did Cruiser Rob Calloway and other heavies Sinan Samil Sam and Timo Hoffman, Danny Williams, Matt Skelton, Kali Meehan and even another aussie J. Fortune stopped Mirovic alot sooner. I see this fight going only one way Oliver McCall by TKO in 6 or sooner. McCall may not be fast but he has the experience, knowhow, Power and chin. These are all the advantages he holds and this will be too much. He still considers himself a contender and his pride will not let him lose this fight, his son will also be fighting on the same card and will likely be ringside to watch his Dad.
McCall is one of those rare fighters that defies all logic all the while reinforcing the old adage that power and a good chin will basically guarantee you longevity in the heavyweight division. I don't know much about Hopoate but I see that he has 2 losses in 13 pro fights. The matchmakers know best so they must think that McCall is really through. Saleta and Sam, though not good fighters, were still world-level operators and Oliver beat them both when logic suggested that the opposite would happen
