I would be all for a pointless Cotto vs Chavez jr fight

Cotto has had a long and difficult career as we all know. He needs a break, and this could be a decent money fight because of the hispanic viewers.

Cotto has every right to pick and choose a buncha C+ level fighters that can make him a little cash and then retire. Or maybe 1 mega fight that makes him lots of money get his ass kicked in the process and just call it a day.

I don't think he has much left to offer on the highest level of boxing, But he sure can take it to these C/B- level fighters.

Cotto is half the fighter he used to be athletically when he fought Margarito, which is when Cotto peaked but was tragically cheated against.

Doesn't matter how much of a better game plan Cotto comes into this fight with, a better game plan is not going to compensate for his clear lost in motor performance. Some may not see this, but IMO its a night and day difference, black and white kind of thing.

And, Margarito can still fight and apply pressure/throw lots of punches and he still has an iron chin. With or without plaster, he will overcome Cotto simply because Cotto has lost so much physically.

Cotto will always be the better fighter though, Margarito ain't ****. He just matches up well because of his size/style/bricks + Cotto is too far past it to even consider this match up with any importance. Its irrelevant, just as irrelevant as Cotto/Chavez. At least Cotto would beat Chavez and make some cash.

 

I don't think hes going to cash **** with Chavez jr to be honest, unless its with a top notch Puerto Rican fighter. Cotto will possibly opt out from Top Rank, and Arum will completely lose the opportunity perhaps to make chavez vs PR. He ain't going to make much money otherwise... Unless Arum is planning to feed Chavez to Pacquiao eventually.
