Probably because most people had Calzaghe down as a WBO fraud, and Kessler as a Eurobum.... In reply to the previous poster - Hopkins did neutralise Calzaghe's and Pavlik's jab, but Kessler probably has a better jab than those two put together. It would be interesting to see Hopkins tactics for a Kessler fight - he is so good at doing what the opponent doesn't want him to do. Against Calzaghe he ran, against Pavlik he traded - Kessler would probably be somewhere in between.
me to but i dont think kessler would win because he hasnt got a plan b and you need a plan b c d e when you are fighting hopkins!
wouldnt be that pointless because, hopkins is unlikely to get a rematch with calzaghe and jones so if he picked kessler apart which your suggesting then not only has he kicked pavliks ass, who calzaghe didnt have the balls to risk, and fight, but he kicks kesslers arse which bar himself is calzaghes biggest win, and if he does a better job than calzaghe, at least he would have put something towards patching up the loss to cazaghe.
Hopkins doesn't have that many opponents left in truth..... Jones will be destroyed in two weeks Calzaghe is retiring having destroyed Jones He has destroyed Tarver already Dawson will have a mandatory - and won't really fancy it anyway IMO Has beaten Trinidad, Wright and DLH convincingly Taylor won't fancy fight III Which leaves Kessler Unless he fancies moving upto cruiserweight, or heavy to take on Valuev :rofl
What is Hopkins gaining in fighting Kessler?? What would it prove?? The answer is nothing. Hopkins lost a close (argued) decision against Calzaghe, why would he fight the guy Calzaghe owned? Kessler hasn't fought ouside the SM division why would he go up? Why would Hopkins go down to face a European level fighter? There is no money in it either as Kessler doesnt put bums on seats. Hopkins has just humiliated a top US fighter why would he go backwards for **** all money. Kessler is not a big fish in the game I'm afraid son.Thats is why the match-up is pointless mate.
