It looks very fun so I would like to at least try it out. I do not expect to be good but I think I would have fun whether I win or lose. How do I go about entering myself into a local boxing match. Do I have to have trained with a gym before I can do this? I'm not sure if I have time to train with a gym currently, and I would like to enter a local match before I do if this is at all possible. Can someone brief me on the details of how to get started? Thanks in advance.

Sounds good, but you'll get more helpful responses in the training forum.

you cant box before you train, no.

im not sure you know what you have yourself in for.

boxing is without doubt the toughest sport on the planet. nothing compares.
you will need at least 6 months of training properly and very intensely before you could consider fighting.
try 6 3 minute rounds on a bag. think of adding footwork, in a ring.. an opponent to outsmart & being hit. that might be the 'reality check'.

if u enter a fight now you will be destroyed probably by the first combo ur opponent throws at u

takes years to master this craft and even then many fail

Just look up a gym, go there and talk to the trainer about your interest in training and fighting. Boxing is fun, but it's also a tough sport if you have any doubts about training just log on here and ask for advice. It takes a little while for you to recieve a lot of responses but eventually you'll get good advice.

If you go into a bout before any form of basic training you will look stupid.

Or worse than looking stupid. Like the above have said this isnt a sport like any other. The object in this sport is basically hurt your opponent. Without training at best you look silly at worse you end up seriously hurt.

If you enter a match without training you are in for a beating you will not forget.

I doubt if many boxing gyms would let you spar without any prior training let alone allow you to fight in a competitive match. There could be some. And those that do, I would likely stay away from. To me that's just irresponsible.

Without any training, you won't know how to throw a punch properly, and most important of all, you won't know how to defend against punches.

Forget about looking stupid, and worry more about ending up in the hospital.

For your sake, I hope whoever fights you won't try to take your head off.

    Cheers!

Don't forget to post the video here, so it serves as a lesson for lazy people.

It's true man. I thought I had some ability and then I went to my first session...and it's just so ****ing hard. Take you months and months before your ready for a fight.

It can be fun, yes - but it's a lot of hard work, there's no skirting around that. If you don't have the time and energy (or in some cases, finances) to invest, some other avenue of "fun" might be better advised.

If you're in the US, and plan on entering a club boxing and/or toughman contest then you'll be barred from US amateur boxing for life, just fyi.
