Kessler had faced adversity before. He's a pro - he should be able to blink off a clash of heads and keep his in the game; and furthermore he should be able to make the adjustment and learn to avoid those rough, dangerous clinches. The truly terrible headbutts didn't even come until the later rounds. He struggled more with the holding and hitting than with the butts, but honestly it's only a foul if you're warned repeatedly for it. It's all about the officiating discretion of the ref. This guy allowed a lot of holding and hitting, so Ward was technically not doing anything wrong by persisting with it (even if it is distasteful). At the end of the day, Kessler was bothered far more by Ward's slick, elusive, erratic & untimeable movement and handspeed than with the butts and holding combined. Kessler lost fair and square. He was off-form, and Ward gutted out the fight of his life.
Throughout the history of the sport, you can be as dirty as the ref allows. Taking advantage of leeway is fighting smart. :conf
Kessler's eye wasn't particularly bad for the first 4 rounds as far as I could see. It was only a mouse at this point and would be far from obscuring his vision. I'll have to take a better look tomorrow in high quality as my viewing was only at 700kbps.
Wow are you ****in serious??? You really cant be??? You are either seriously ****ed up in the head or a 12 year old Calzaghe fan that is crying real tears while you were typing this.atsch
In my first post after the fight I also posted that I dont think the butts changed the outcome of the fight but having just remembered something Kessler said I am not so sure now. Kessler said after one of the butts his sight went odd which is a sign of concussion. He was complaining in the corner that he couldnt see, which I assumed was due to blood, but if indeed he was fighting most of the fight concussed its very likely that it did in fact effect the outcome. Just a speculation mind you. I would also say Kessler looked very flat and that Ward's boxing, other than the butts, impressed me and for that he does deserve praise. Where does Kessler go from here? Well I can see him beating Froch and Dirrell if the flatness tonight was indeed a one off. For me now I think the overall winner will come from Ward, Kessler and Abraham. I dont see how any of the others can win.
Oh and by the way how come Ward wasnt affected by any of the headbutts??? He wasnt hurt by any of them??? 90% of fights in boxing have a few headbutts in them......
Why make this about race you racist pig. Most of my favorite all time fighters are black. I don't even consider color (unlike you). I just dislike to see dirty fighters get the win.
It is not so much about the eye. Have you ever been headbuttet for real? They don't wear gloves on their heads remember... If you get really headbutted the world starts spinning for real. Never mind the blood. Kessler never even commented on the blood. He couldn't see because of the concussion. The blood was just an additional problem of the headbutting.
Well, same logic holds true for Ward. What an amazing performance being concussed from the 2nd round on... This guy is a troll.
