I have to agree with the those who say the head butts were not intentional. Every time Ward went low, he would seek to tie MK up on the inside. He did this throughout the entire fight. Kessler to his credit always stood his ground with the exception of a few times. But, by doing so, he allowed Ward's forward and upward momentum to cause the clash of heads. It's easily understandable why someone would think it's intentional, but I can't see any reason to do so myself other than conjecture. Kessler also held Ward arms plenty of times. The ref only started allowing them to try and fight out of it after it was clear there would be a lot of meetings in the middle. At one point he even went over to Kessler's corner to explain to him that he could keep fighting(when they came together) even though he was being told to let go. The butts may have played a role in the fight, but there is no reason to believe they were intentional, just unfortunate. I had Kessler to win. I'm surprised.

Ward has a history of using his head to his advantage, look back at the Ruben Williams fight for another example. Either he's too clumsy with his head to be allowed in a ring for the safety of his opponent, or he's dirty. I would have said clumsy after the Miranda fight, but I'm not so sure now. I think his actions will/should be scrutinised fairly strictly by referees re: headbutts in future bouts.

JoeAverage you are an absolute jerk off. Just read your posts in the Rd by Rd. LOL at you giving rounds to kessler in which he was getting his ass kicked, you even tried to claim at one point that Ward was knocked out on his feet holding on for dear life. You blow.

I think he said he's rarely had a ref that wasn't on his payroll.

I agree with every word Joe, except for the part about giving up the dirty tactics. This kid head butts better than Benard Hopkins every even dreamed of, and he got away with it. I doubt if he'll ever stop doing what is clearly working for him.

At least 5 of the dozen or so head butts he hit Kessler with were clearly intentional. I'm looking forward to the day when Ward runs into a fighter who won't hesitate to put a knee in his face when he comes charging in with his head down with every intention of head butting.

After tonight I'm beginning to think there is a special rule in the sauerland six that says the home town fighter is allowed to foul at will, with impunity.

Didn't expect this from you..... but on another note..

How do you now view Pavlik Vs. Kessler..........you always seemed to think this is a fight kelly would lose, Kess is not as good as everyone one thought.

Could have been a good fight if Ward had not tried to stack the judges. He refused to fight unless it was in his hometown. Ward will not fight anywhere except his hometown. Ward's referee allowed him to land low blows, some were extremely low, he held, but his head butts were extremely hard and on purpose. Could Ward have won without his referee, head butts, etc.? I would like to see if he can. Those head butts were the best butts I have ever seen, much better than Holyfield's. Kessler should have known better than to do whatever Ward wanted. He had the belt, so why would Ward only fight in his hometown? This will be every fight he fights.

It's really hard to judge Kessler on this fight. He caught the first really hard head butt in the second round. Ward hit him flush on the cheek bone with the front portion of the top of his head. There is no way in hell that was an accident.

I saw a number of posts on this thread where people excused Ward's behavior by claiming the head butts were accidental. A foul is a foul. the ref is still suppose to issue warnings, and assess penalties, and if it happens over and over, disqualify the guilty fighter. I counted 5 head butts that were clearly intentional, and that's grounds for disqualification.

What fight did you watch? Kessler held more than Ward, then complained when Ward punched his way out. Kessler just got an old fashion ass whooping tonight by a fighter he took lightly.

    Good post.:good

Ward had prepared for his blind referee so the result was "Ward by TD".

If Kessler had his referre it would now be "Kessler by DQ".

Yes, Hopkins is known as a dirty fighter. But in his best wins there is never blatant continuos fouling. Hopkins gets away with things because the ref doesnt see it not because he has the ref is on his side.

The ref would tell Kessler to break out and Ward would hit out of the clinch. Thats the only reason for Kessler to maintain holding.
