Well there paths did cross and Pac ducked him so I guess he'll visit Africa by purchasing a ticket and flying.
What would happen to Campbell and Raheem if they fought Oscar, Cotto, and Hatton? Nothing good. Hatton would tear through a boxer who needs space or clinches like Raheem, that ugly swarming style in the clinches would be the end of Zahir. Can't believe you hear things about Pac avoiding Guzman, Raheem, and Campbell ... those guys just aren't on the same super elite level and Erik took Raheem very lightly and came in pretty fat to boot.
At the time we (as in hardcore fans who post on message boards) wanted to see Pac against slick, cuban, African American, pure boxers, etc...you get the point? But I'll just post this interview with Murad Muhammad, Pac's former promoter, on why Pac didn't fight these type of fighters... http://fighthype.com/pages/content7017.html Enjoy!
1. Raheem was fighting at 135 and pac at 130 2. Pac-Morales was contracted for a trilogy with Morales exercising his right to the 2nd and third fight. 3. You're a hardcore flom0 who kiss any black fighter's ass.
Pac already fought several slick, black fighters in ledwaba, bradley and clottey. Meanwhile, floyd was feasting with come forward, slow fighters.
The negative style of Raheem is rewarded disproportionately by modern judges. Zero risk ... at the time, my perception of Pac was as a wonderful puncher with extreme limitations who would run into a punch sooner or later but who was physically too much for most brawlers. I certainly could care less if Raheem could limit the action - the first Morales fight was so amazing, who cares about boring Zahir? This is the problem with being a true slickster: lose the belt and you will never be on tv again. It was a disgrace when Erik was chasing him around the ring with one hand down and the other raised up and Zahir refused to engage. Who wants to see that guy on TV, let alone get a big payday? A boring style is one loss from irrelevance. An exciting one lets you lose over and over (Gatti, Katsidis, etc) and still be TV material.
I wouldn't call Bradley slick either....more like clumsy, wild, and inaccurate. If you think Tim Bradley is slick then I guess Shawn Porter and Karim Mayfield are also slicksters in your book.
You have a problem with the way Raheem beat Morales? That was negative fighting you say? I say it was a beautiful display of boxing, especially defense, counterpunching, and ring generalship.
funny how people talk schit about mayweather only fighting slow-footed mexicans....who did manny fight? JMM (4X), Morales (3X), Barrera (3X), david diaz, margarito, brandon rios, etc, etc...pac made his rep offa slow-ass mexicans...and he STILL can't beat Marquez, because marquez is a counterpuncher, and pac lost to Morales the first time up. But notice how he avoided raheem, guzman, floyd...all the quick counterpuncher types. they say triangle reasoning doesn't work in boxing...but if you really pay attention, it does most of the time.
