Ian Butlin Responds To Dave O'Donnell; Praises UCC

UK MMA stalwart Ian Butlin talks about up and coming Mancunian organisation the UCC, and replies to Dave O'Donnell's comments on MMA Hit Pit earlier this week.

Q: Dave O Donnell seemed to attack and insult UCC over the use of 5x5 minute rounds in the title fights. What are your thoughts on this?

A: My thoughts on the attack or the use of 5x5 minute rounds?

The attack I thought was out of order and I couldn't understand why he would make such personal comments when he obviously doesnt know much about the promotion. Saying that UCC are 'hanging on the shirt tails of Ultimate Challenge' is laughable. They are just another promotion trying to push the sport. Surely this is beneficial to all?

No one got stuck into Cage Rage when they were hanging on the shirt tails of Cage Warriors; we all thought it was great and Dougie and the team helped them along and it didn't do them any harm! Now they are Ultimate Challenge and seem to be doing OK with regular shows again. I wish them well.

With regards to the 5x5 minute rounds I actually think Dave was right. I think that at this level it is better to stick to the standard 3x5 minute rds. I commentated at the recent Cage Warriors event at Birmingham where they had title fights of 5x5minute rounds, but these involved some of the best fighters in Europe. Domestic shows like Ultimate Challenge and UCC should stick to 3x5 minutes as Dave said.
