I read in the Daily Mail that Ian Darke is leaving Sky after over 20 years to take up a three year contract with ESPN as a football commentator. Research shows Ian (according to Wiki) was born in 1924. Astonishing that one who is of similar vintage to Angelo Dundee and Jake LaMotta can still be at the peak of his profession. At 86, Ian is a contempory of Harry Carpenter and Reg Gutteridge, and must now be the oldest man in world broadcasting. Peter Alliss comes close, but Ian is the grand-daddy of them all. He will be much missed for his great boxing commentaries, although perhaps it is a case of never say never again. No suprise to me if the old boy were to be still cranking on when he is 100.

He's easily the best commentator and makes a lot of the fights for me. Watt commentated well last weekend I thought.

Can't believe he is leaving. Best commentator Sky had by far IMO - he will be missed.

Much better than any combo with Jim Watt in it.
