Insecure Klit or Euro fan. They've always hated Ike for the respect and admiration he got for his brief tenure as a pro.
Saying he had wins over two of the top contenders is not at all incompatible with saying he had two twin over the lower end of the top ten. :huh So I'm not sure if the tone of this post is meant to be agreement or disagreement. You basically just rephrased my statement. Peter hadn't turned pro by the time Ike was gone, so I'm not sure about your second sentence either. Do you mean Sam Peter's record now against Ike's record at the time of his incarceration? :think I guess they're not far apart. Toney x2 and Maskaev with a bit of meat left on the bone stack not unfavorably against prime Byrd and Tua.
Vitali has many that are near as good. I'm not entirely sure Peter and Sanders aren't right up there with them.
No, you need to check your facts. Peter is consistantly listed between 6' and 6'1. Do some research before you run to Boxrec which is not a reliable source.
Your heros are supreme at beating journeymen. But its not their faults that there have been no HW hopefuls in at least 10 years.
Both of those bits deserve special mention. One, the scorecards in Ike-Byrd where 39-37 Ike, 39-37 Byrd, and 38-38 Byrd. I've watched the fight several times, and I usually have it 3-1 Ike or 2-2. 3-1 Byrd is a stretch. Ike cornered and backed him onto the ropes several times in the first couple of rounds, and Byrd himself was tired by round 5 from fighting his way off the ropes and trying to keep Ike off him...which is why he was cornered again in round 5 and got KTFO. Byrd was losing that fight, Ike was in control. It was a tremendous win. It was no lucky punch. Two, Ike was a big, chiseled, very strong SOB. He wasn't a soft, pudgy looking dude like Chagaev, Ibragimov, Chambers, Peter, Arreola, and many other heavyweights today. In spite of that 76" reach, in his fights he showed the ability to cut off the ring well, and never had any significant difficulty in either reaching his opponents or out-muscling them in close. Probably the only heavyweight around back in the late 90s that might have out-muscled Ike was Lennox. Three, what Ike did in his time was quite impressive and heralded tremendous, albeit unrealized, potential. His victories over Tua and Byrd were done when he was still developing. The man hadn't even reached his prime yet. What his ceiling was, no one will ever know for certain, but to say he didn't give us a very strong indication of future greatness is just wrong.
Fixed your little typo:good I agree Big V could not out Muscle Ike, but I do not think wlad makes to 10:deal
