Ike is one of those 'coulda, shoulda, woulda but didn't' guys. He had a nice run going, but he didn't look like a destroyer each time out either. His rep his been built on outpointing Tua and beating Byrd impressively and nothing else. Outpointing Tua in an action-packed fight was a very good effort, but then again Hasim Rahman was outpointing Tua and outboxing Tua for 9 1/2 rounds too, and for my money won the rematch. Tua was behind in many of his fights before landing a big one. Tua wasn't hard to outbox, simple as that. It was a good effort from Ike though, I don't want to take anything away from him. He had a lot of potential, but many heavyweights have had that.
It had nothing to do with outpointing Tua, he was sending a message to the whole world by standing toe to toe with the hardest puncher in all of boxing and slugging it out for 12 rounds straight while setting the record for the most punches thrown in a 12 round heavyweight bout in one of the most brutal heavyweight brawls in the history of boxing. NOBODY has ever stood in front of David Tua and traded power punches for an extended period of time like Ike did and rightfully so but Ike was bat**** crazy from the start and a little too crazy for his own good, especially for the well being of his cranial grey matter. A little known fact: Tua actually hit Ibeabuchi so hard in that fight with an overhand right that he had to have surgery to remove bone splinters from his right elbow and of course Ibeabuchi suffered severe brain damage from absorbing hundreds of power punches from the hardest hitter in all of boxing. Soon after the fight Ibeabuchi started to suffer from debilitating migraine headaches and eventually losing his mind altogether to the point where he was seeing ghosts and demons.
That one seems a little too crazy, Frazier had a pretty good chin and plenty of heart. It would take a brutal combination from Tyson to knock him out that quickly.
Nah Elroy, your bias is betrayed when you are imprecise. "At leastcut from the same mold" does not mean Marvis had the same talents or chin. Actually Joe should have trained him to box more rather than swarm. Though I do not differ with you that Tyson would likely win, even without the workrate, heart & endurance. Due to the greater speed, better precision & a bit better defense. Athleticism is a big factor.
Tyson hit hard but he didn't hit THAT hard to the point where he would put Frazier to sleep with ONE PUNCH, like I said I think it would take a vicious combination or Frazier would be getting back up from the canvas and recovering pretty quickly. Tyson requires COMBINATIONS to put people down for good whereas Tua could do it with ONE PUNCH and the scary thing about Tua's power is that unlike Tyson, he routinely put guys to sleep without even loading up all the way AND without throwing his punches in combinations, he would just hit guys with regular 1 or 2 punches and they go into hibernation mode like the right hand that had Michael Moorer unconscious on the ropes, it appeared to be just a regular right hand from Tua but it inflicted devastating damage to his opponent. The difference between Tyson and Tua is that Tyson had to bend his knees and EXPLODE up from the ground and put ALL of his weight into his punches to knock people out. Tua rarely loaded up all the way because he didn't have to, he usually only did it when he was fighting an opponent who had insulted him such as John Ruiz or Shane Cameron then he was looking to try to murder them like the uppercut that nearly killed John Ruiz while he was slumped on the ropes, THAT was loaded up all the way and thrown with deadly intentions.
To those who say Tyson ducked XYZ during 96-99 first things first Tyson was already on the slide before he went to prison. Tyson was just a belt holder post prison and during the 97-99 he was exiled after the bite fight. Pre prison Tyson beats the living **** out of overrated Ike. Tyson well past his best stilled pulled out wins against guys like Botha and Golota. Tua has NOTHING on Tyson, if you want me to elborate ill do so. Tua is an overhyped bum who achieved nothing his whole career apart from a few highlight Kos over 2-3rd tier fighters. Comparing Tua to Tyson is like comparing Derek Chisora to Joe Frazier. How many rounds did a Prime Tua win against Lennox? None. He walked into the ringpost like a complete fool in the last dying seconds and plodded through following Lewis the whole fight. An old Tyson was at least competitive for the first 4 rounds. Tyson did everything better than Tua, Tyson was a greater fighter than Tua and history will echo this. Ibeabuch would end up like Bruno and Ruddock. Competitive for the first few rounds but battered into submission. Tyson wouldnt have to go looking for him. One of Tysons easier wins. Guys who stood in front of Tyson got taken care of very easily, Berbick, Tubbs, Bruno, Ruddock, Botha, Golota etc
Joe Frazier, Ali, and Foreman were miles above Berbick, Spinks, Bonecrusher, Marvis, and an extremely rusty, out of shape, Holmes(the version Tyson fought). As for the chin comparison between Marvis and Joe: Horrible argument (Joe's chin was in a different league).
Another ball licking simple minded robot hellbent on maintaining the status quo without offering even a glimpse of original thought.
Theres no way Byrd would of went out standing against prime Tyson. Mike would of knocked him out cold and probably in less rounds than 5. This is why i donk think Ike hit harder. The speed kills. Tyson far to quick for both Ike and Tua. Saying a guy would beat another guy when are way past prime is a stupid argument to make anyway.
Rubbish. Monster chins? Anticipation and a good defence make chins look better than they are. Do you think some people walk around with granite chins that you can punch and punch like it were a monster chin?? Stone me! Those two were bombing away but both saw what the other was doing before they did it. Both rolled with each others punches all night. Monster chins I ask you!
So the brutal overhand right that Tua hit Ike with in that fight and the fact that Tua had to have surgery to remove a bone splinter from the same elbow a week later and to add on to that the fact that Ibeabuchi was complaining of severe migraine headaches immediately after that fight all means nothing according to you, Ibeabuchi and Tua were just throwing toilet power at each other all night.
