Some folks around here seem to think that steroids give you big muscles even if you don’t lift weights.

    I don’t understand what you’re asking.

I agree Cus was more than eccentric he was borderline nuts! I don't think he would of stopped at anything to get another heavyweight champ.Specially as he was getting old any morals he might or might not of had as young man went out the window imo

    That's right. They do.
And it's been proven in scientific studies.

Anabolic steroids are often prescribed to patients with cancer, HIV and other diseases to prevent or slow down weight loss and muscle wastage. And, no, the terminally ill patients are not put on a bodybuilding weights program to "make the steroids work" !

I think you were saying there was nothing wrong or unusual about teenagers packing on an unusual amount of lean muscle?

So I was asking do you think that is beneficial? Do you think it is natural? Do you think that it is conventional?

    It is artificial isn't it?

They don't have to know a thing about steroids. They just find a friendly doctor who can get them something. Or even a veterinary doctor ! LOL

Boxers have been given drugs for 100 years or more.
It's weird how some here are acting like 1980 was the ****ing stone age or something.

Every top professional trainer is supposed to have good doctors to consult.

People here are talking as if Cus D'amato and his crew lived in some bubble that had no attachment to the modern world.

If they put Tyson on steroids, why didn't they let him lift weights?
He would have been even bigger, stronger and thus more powerful and better.
Can you imagine how devastating would Tyson be if he were around 230-240 lbs with a 400 lbs bench, 500 lbs squat and 600 lbs deadlift?

I do think old school trainers like Cus, Dunde etc did live in some bubble as far as lifting weights and steroids... FFS, they thought lifting weights will make you slow, and you think they encouraged steroids?
Lifting weights makes you stronger, doing steroids makes you stronger... Why would they encourage one without other?

It means nothing. Powerlifting is powerlifting. Knocking mofos out is knocking mother****ers out !
    It's two different sports.

Cus D'amato trained Tyson to be a monster in the ring. The standard heavyweight in Tyson's day was about 217 pounds IN SHAPE. Many of them were on steroids, most likely.

There's a limit to how BIG Tyson needed to be. 220 pounds at his height was plenty, anything more and he'd be slower and less agile, obviously.

Money was no object. Clayton and Jacobs had the money. Tyson was a project. And he was a really a child. They all had a free reign to accomplish what they wanted with Tyson.

We cannot rule out that they were ruthless enough to bring in "special Doctors" to ensure Their investment was going to grow into what they wanted.

It makes you think about all the other kids that went through that set up they had going. What became of the rejected kids?

Because they weren't training him to be the STRONGEST man in the world, or even the "strongest" heavyweight boxer in the world. They were training him to be the BEST.
It's not just to make him be huge and stronger than everyone else. This is boxing, after all.

    This is pretty simple.
IF they had him on steroids - and I'm not saying they did - but "IF" they did - it's to make him GROW BIG ENOUGH to be the best heavyweight.

It's crazy to think they didn't know about steroids.

Well he still has atleast 50 pounds of extra fat compared to when he was in fighting shape so it could very well be the case even if hes lost muscle.
