I like the idea of these four man box offs. They give some credibility to the winner when they challenge for the belt. I also thought Mormeck was a possiblity to face Wlad in the spring and in Fracne I thought. I'm not crazy about a Wlad-Chambers rematch if Chambers wins this(like he probably will). If Mormeck pulled out that could open the door to someone more interesting like Arreola or Lyakovich to enter. Just as long as the participants are top 20 fighters than this is a good idea.
I have seen about ten of Boytsov's fights and he has a few big things going for him. He is skilled, fast, hits hard, and very aggressive. He has not proven it yet but he has a lot of potential.
The last IBF tournament was awesome. Povetkin-Byrd-Brock-Chambers... I thoroughly enjoyed it :thumbsup Argh for ****s sake I wish Chambers would fight at cruiserweight. Klitschko-Chambers 2 would ****ing blow. Saying that, I'd love to see a Dimitrenko-Chambers rematch :think Boytsov is added to the list of Wlad duckers Dimitrenko has already ducked Wlad now I think of it... Banks is a K2 fighter, seems strange that he'd fight in this tourny I wished they picked different fighters
Manny Steward trains Chambers now, correct? When Chambers becomes Wlad's mandatory again, Uncle Manny will have a decision. Not much of one but a decision none the less.
Maybe Dimi will improve enough to beat Chambers, so we can see Dimi get thrashed by Wladimir, instead of another onesided Chambers thrashing. Been there. Done that.
Dimitrenko has pulled out as well, in a statement to German newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt he said he'll instead go ahead with his European title defense against Sosnowski, most likely on the big British card that's being planned for December 11. http://www.abendblatt.de/sport/article1661079/Dimitrenko-will-nicht-an-WM-Turnier-teilnehmen.html Seems this whole tournament is falling apart before it even begins...
Read....Banks is dangerous and Chambers even more so.. They shouldn't give up...just pick the 4 top guys who are willing to accept. Theoretically, the list of IBF rankings is pretty long...maybe they can find new fighters. So Dimitrenko is out, Mormeck is probably out as well. Current IBF rankings.... 1 NOT RATED 2 NOT RATED 3 Tomasz Adamek Poland 4 Denis Boytsov Germany 5 Eddie Chambers United States 6 Samuel Peter United States 7 Ruslan Chagaev Uzbekistan 8 Chris Arreola United States 9 Alexander Dimitrenko Ukraine 10 Jean Marc Mormeck France 11 Jonathon Banks United States 12 Alexander Povetkin Russian Federation 13 Odlanier Solis Cuba 14 Derrick Rossy United States 15 Maurice Harris United States Any chance Peter or Arreola would participate? Maybe give Derric Rossy or Cedric Boswell a shot. I wonder why Tony Thompson isn't in the Top 15 IBF, yet Rossy and Harris are?
In my opinion Chambers and Peter should not participate because they both got knocked out by Wladimir in their last fight and weren't competitive before the KO at all. I'd be fine with Thompson taking part, though.
I have read that as well. I don't think anything was finalized though. Have not heard anything since then on that.
Forget Chambers, Peter, Chagaev and Thompson, they all just lost to Wlad and haven't bounced back enough. Arreola, M. Grant, Boswell and someone else like Pianeta, Ustinov, Banks, Meehan, Platov or Helenius.
IBF will "get errr done" eventually. Like mentioned above, Arreola should jump at something like this.
