IBF: Look doe, Oscar says no fight. Lets strip GGG and give the belt to Derevyenchenko so he can fight Jacobs. A week later the fight gets signed. WBC and WBA rejoice as they are about to earn their big fat sanctioning fee. IBF: doeee
The IBF mishandled the situation, not recognizing GGG had nothing to do with Clen's pullout, and the short-notice fight and the September rematch was always going to happen. Once they pulled the mandatory card though, they went through with it, that's still more logical than the WBA's and WBC's regular shenanigans. I'd happily take the best of the IBF and WBO, unify them and put everyone else in jail especially Sulaiman and the WBA ranking gang.
The have a history of doing this so i don't think they're feeling that way. Golovkin was getting stripped regardless.
Its not about smart or not with the IBF, they have a set of rules and they follow it, unlike WBC or WBA. The IBF lost a lot of money but at least they did the " right thing" . If all the ABC's would be like them we'd see less cherry picking imo Tom Loeffler said after they stripped him that the " IBF did multiple financial favours to GGG by doing so" ...and now we know what he meant, if no Canelo he would've fought BJS on PPV most likely, still making some good bucks
The IBF has done nothing wrong of all the organization I respect them the most due to the fact that they follow the rules. WBC WBO never do and they let money dictact what they enforce or don’t. They just enforce the rules. Why you're mad at the IBF I’ll never know. But you shouldn’t be you really need to ask yourself why did GGG fight a guy not in his division coming off a 2yr layoff. GGG complained that Andrade was a lefty. The IBF mando is a righty and GGG shouldn’t have ducked point blank period
They stuck to their guns and that’s respectable, as fans we can’t complain when the sancationing bodies do dodgy stuff but then mock them when they actually do the right thing at their own expense
A few words of advice for the IBF. Never strip a dominant, popular, long-reigning, pound-for-pound champ who has nearly twice as many successful title defenses as your current "mandatory" has wins ... because the champ didn't fight your 'mando' quickly enough. More importantly, don't strip your dominant champ if he's fighting another pound-for-pound boxer instead of your novice mando. And if you are stupid enough to strip your champ, don't match your novice "mando" with a veteran who the popular champ has already floored and beaten. Because if the veteran (who the champ has already beaten) wins your belt, you'll look even more pathetic than you do now. In other words, stay out of it, collect your sanctioning fees and don't get involved unless something objectionable is really going on. Your "mandatory" has only been a pro for four years and his only significant win came over Tureano Johnson. He can wait a little while. Seriously. You don't strip a hall of famer over nonsense like that. It's looking like Czar Glazkov all over again.
There's really nothing "respectable" about it. You don't strip a dominant champ for a novice because the novice beat a guy in your rankings who didn't deserve his spot, either. It's nonsense.
And what if he fights SD and gets hurt, cut, etc? GGG was smart to take on a late sub and keep his options for fall open. But I don’t expect simpletons to understand that on ESB.
That's a good post. The IBF did nobody any favours by stripping GGG, probably not even Derevyanchenko. If they could have gotten an agreement for Golovkin to fight SD after the Canelo defence it would have been best for everybody. Jacobs has a good chance of trouncing Dere (if he regains the form he had a short while back) but the thing is that both DJ and SD AND the IBF will get peanuts for a fight that really deserves more. ON THE OTHER HAND: Kudos to the IBF for doing what they said they'd do and enforcing their mandos. I hate it when guys at the top dodge people throught their financial clout. While they get my respect for doing so, they could have been a bit more flexible and worked out a deal for everybody to win.
Yes you do, if that’s the case then ‘dominant champs’ never have to defend against lesser known names. So I bet you probably didn’t wanna see GGG get his mandatory shot vs Sturm? or GGG get his mandatory shot vs Martinez? You’re talking nonsense, Derevyanchenko isn’t a novice and if he was GGG should have koed him instead of Vanes.
