But, more importantly do the refs really need to be that officious? I actually quite like a few fouls and low blows. I don't like dirty fighters but I like crafty fighters. Analysing stuff the fighter does on the blindside of the referee inbetween rounds and then pulling him up for it might ruin fights. Like Naz used to do all sorts. He'd hit guys on the break, trip them up, low blow, all sorts but he was crafty about it. It was all about control. Keeping on top of the other guy and making it as difficult for him as he could. When he lost to Barrera the reverse happened. Barrera didn't stand for any of it and dished it back. Naz couldn't get any control.

Imagine if Duran fought khan. Khan would be faster, maybe even technically better. But Duran is a pure fighter. Duran would be roughing him up and letting him know its a fight and he's going to do anything to win and Khan would have to man up to that. It'd be a big and fascinating factor in the fight. But if we then had a man watching on video and telling the ref, Duran keeps stepping on khan's toes, he keeps holding the back of his head etc is that going to make for a more exciting fight?

The best refs are anonymous. Give them more power to rule on lots of small things and it becomes bit by bit less about the two fighters and more about the rules.

I think this is important. Because if they're going to bring in technology for cuts (which yep, is a good idea) it needs to be explicit at the outset that that is the ONLY thing.

I agree with that. I'm not on about pulling fighters up on everyting- just the things that can and do sway fights. The last thing we want is every punch being scrutinised, I'm just on about fight-swaying decisions:good.

E.G. I'm under the cosh, I need to buy time. What do I do? "He hit me low ref! He hit me low. Watch it on the replay!" - cue 5mins break whilst they watch the tape back and rule i'm talking shite. Doesn't matter, i've got my senses back, i'm ok. Game on.

Bear in mind you only get 5mins grace for a low blow if the ref acknowledges it. There's no need for the ref to then check it happened on tape.

were wouldthis work inm unification fights ?imena if you have the wba/ibf belts on the line would there be a sticky issue on this and wether they would enforce it .

also would it be enforced on second tiere championship belts ?:huh

From what the IBF said in their statement, it will be for televised championship fights initially. As for unifications, I guess they would all have to agree on it like they have on other topics in the unified rules of the boxing commisions. At least one of the big 4 is talking this up, though. It's definately a start.

Sorry to let you know mate, but he couldnt continue, he was seeing black in one eye and had internal bleeding behind it, the doctor said he would have stopped the fight in the 4th round because of it even if campbell had wanted to continue because it could have caused permanant eye damage or blindness.Therefore, i have nothing against Campbell needing to quit. On the topic, i think its a great idea.:rasta

Theres really no need to be sorry mate. I must have missed that at the time, I only noticed the cut which didn't look like it was impairing the vision. I stand corrected....:good
