Michael Moorer Nigel Benn/Chris Eubank either one Pongsaklek Wonjongkam Rafael Marquez Dariusz Michalczweski
Still patiently waiting for the day they put Lionel Rose, Sumbu Kalambay, Marlon Starling, and Ernesto Marcel on the ballot.
Lockridge vs Pedroza was not robbery they were both very close fights. Rocky Lockridge vs Eusebio Pedroza 1 1 Lockridge 2 Lockridge 3 Lockridge 4 Pedroza 5 Lockridge 6 Pedroza 7 Pedroza 8 Pedroza 9 Pedroza 10 Pedroza 11 Lockridge 12 Pedroza 13 Lockridge 14 Pedroza 15 Lockridge 143-142 Pedroza Eusebio Pedroza vs Rocky Lockridge 2 1 Even 2 Lockridge 3 Pedroza 4 Lockridge 5 Pedroza 6 Pedroza 7 Lockridge 8 Pedroza 9 Lockridge 10 Lockridge 11 Lockridge 12 Pedroza 13 Pedroza 14 Lockridge 15 Pedroza 143-143 Draw My scoring of both fights and two gentleman, who i score fights with in "scorecard thread" in the classic forum @salsanchezfan @scartissue two very knowledgeable posters who's opinions i respect alot. Also had Pedroza winning a close fight in their 1st meeting, too many times the word "robbery" is thrown around for a close fight. Were these fights debatable and controversial ? absolutely. Is there a case for both men winning ? absolutely. But were either of these fights one sided enough, where neither man has no argument for winning ? absolutely not. So there is no "robbery" here as you claim. Just close fights hard to score that could of gone either way, Pedroza closed the show winning a majority of the later rounds in there first fight, to earn a close decision. I see nothing in the champion "Pedroza" earning a hard fought close decision.
The problem with Moorer is that he is benefitting from revisionism. No one back then cared about his WBO trinket at 175. He gave it up himself because it was 'reetarding his career' (intentionally spelled wrong). But in recent years many have begun to paint a rosy gloss on his light heavyweight run, as if it was historically significant when it wasn't.
He certainly needed to do more at 175. He would be a slam dunk for the hall of fame had he fought and beaten Virgil Hill or Henry Maske which I believe he would have. A stop at Cruiserweight on his way up to heavyweight to win another belt would have made him a three division champ but again, the competition was not great 190 in those days which is why he didn't bother. Like I said, I'm not sold on him or the rest of the ballot once you get outside of the four I mentioned.
Great breakdown of these fights. I think beyond the fights with Pedroza, Lockridge deserve some recognition for being the 1st man to beat Roger May and fighting most of his career as the "away" fighter. Not sure if he will get the nod but will be happy for his family if he gets the acknowledgement
Although I disagree with the inclusion of fighters with a low number of high profile fights. It would be nice to see Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez getting in together for their rivalry, boxing doesn't get any better than that
Seven fighters in there are deserving and some very overdue In no order from that list I could see Maske Michalczewski Ottke Eubank Benn Getting in I Could also see C John M Kessler Getting there
Hopkins wasn't really in the mix so much at that time Could say it hurts them that they never got those fights either Both Eubank and Benn have imo greater SMW resumes than those two
Completely agree as well about "robbery" being thrown around WAY too liberally. Close fights are tough, because they supply ammunition to the fans of the loser, anytime there's even a shred of doubt about the outcome. It's inconceivable somehow that their guy could possibly be on the bad end of any verdict. Injustice at their fingertips anytime they need it. Incidentally, I'm more a fan of Lockridge than Pedroza. Now the Gomez fight, that was different. THAT qualifies as a robbery. I remember one poster here many years ago who argued that Gomez deserved the decision in that one. He was Puerto Rican and in attendance that day and was convinced that Gomez won because "you should have heard the crowd!" .....................huh?
All due respect to Ottke but don't think he is HOF worthy. He was big in Germany so it will pandering to that fanbase type of choice
