I think this would be a fun fight. Who takes it? While Sultan doesn't hit as hard as Morrison or Lewis, he did have very fast hands with good pop and often hit his opponents from weird angles.

Sultan had the chin and technical skill to beat Mercer. Not a good match up for Ray.

That's what I'm thinking. But a brawl would break out a few times in this fight I think, with some good back and forth action. Ray would have his moments but Sultan was tough enough to hang in there and outpoint Ray.

Sultan would have befuddled Ray...all night long. Sorry Iggy retired so soon.

He was taller too....that crouch he fought out of made him seem shorter,...but he wasn't...he was taller than Vitali too! I bet if he had never had that tragic boating accident when he lost all his thunder sticks and hurt his back, he would have been as tall as SNV....

I'd pick Iggy to decision Mercer.

Did he hit harder than Wlad? Not quite, but he could be very aggressive in the ring and scored some nice KO's

Well there was a sparring partner on here that said Wlad hit every bit as hard as Lennox Lewis, and he sparred both. Manny steward said Wlad actually hit harder. There is NO WAY Iggy hit harder. Sorry. Sultan was a VERY good fighter with good pop, but not like top 10 all time power.

    Another vote for Iggy.

And at the same time, another "if only" result for Mercer. A winnable fight, but he doesn't get the W. I think Ray would have a lot of "if only" type results if he had fought a better level of competition. Or lets say boxers. He'd have his moments, but cashing in on those moments is a whole different story.

Are you talking about Ray Austin?? Lol Of course he would say "oh Ibragimov hit harder than Wladimir! And I took Ibragimov the distance and drawed him! I just had an off night v.s Wlad and he got that lucky shot in."

Riiiiight. Wladimir Klitschko was the hardest puncher Freddie Roach has held the mitts for (According to him) and Steward said Wladimir hit the hardest out of all his fighters. Wlad has top 10 all time power. Iggy had good pop but not the impact Wladimir has. Just look at the way Wlad moves his opponents when he cracks them. Listen to the sound. Sultan didn't have THAT kind of power.

Mercer was inconsistent.... People forget that, an Ibragimov win here wouldn't be the most shocking thing ever.

Mercer was strangely inconsistent. He'd knock out a guy like Morrison and then get badly schooled by an old comeback Holmes ( who incidentally I think was still better than a prime Ibragamov.) He could give Lennox Lewis fits but outslicked by Ferguson, though Ray had a shoulder problem going into that fight. I was never impressed with Iggy but he was hard to catch. Wlad chased him all night long all over the ring and couldn't corner him long enough to land a death blow. And it should be noted that Iggy was never stopped, of course he didn't have that many fights and fought a lot of Garbage. I'm torn between the two. Not sure who I'd pick. Kinda leaning towards a close and unimpressive decision for Sultan though.
