I like Ibragimov in this match-up. I think he tends to get a little underrated, whereas Sanders generally tends to be overrated. His power and speed were for real, but Ibragimov is tactically superior, and I think he wins this match-up far more often than not.
Corrie Sanders had a small gas tank and wasn't be careful on the defence and tried to knock out faster by left hand, so Sanders would have been convenient for Ibragimov as a counter puncher, but of course, in the first 3-5 rounds, Sanders would have been very dangerous.
iggy may well outgass and ko old shot sanders who destroyed prime wlad in seconds. But I dont know. but prime sanders makes it a tougher fight, perhaps hurting and stopping iggy.
I had very high regard for both these guys, but even more for Ibragimov...he was the best of the Russians...by far the smartest & toughest. I think he stays clear of danger vs Corrie and outboxes & out lasts the South African, who gasses after the first 6 or 7 rounds. He's more demoralized and exhausted than anything else, but Sultan would have imposed himself on him as well, busting him up and forcing a surrender by the end of the 9th round.
I think 90s Corrie Sanders could decision him. 2000s Sanders either gets stopped late or gassed out and loses a sloppy decision ( if he can’t end it early).
I believe it's because Maskaev is from Kazakhstan and it's one of those countries that falls under the Russian umbrella, with only some residents of that country identifying themselves as Russian citizens. The same situation going on in the Ukraine the past several years...
It's still a confusing and rather annoying habit in my opinion. Nobody around here is going to refer to Masakev as Maskajew. It'd be the equivalent of typing Japanese fighters names in Kanji or Hiragana, or always call SRR by Walker Smith Jr. Makes little sense to me to refer to fighters outside their commonly used names without context. If there's a principled reason for doing so, I think Ras would do himself a favor in explaining it now and then, since this is far from the first time this discussion has shown up after one of his posts.
I happen to agree completely with you. I was just sharing what I know about why some people refer to fighters in such a way.
Easy answer, we're on a predominantly English speaking message board where every single poster besides yourself uses the Anglicized versions of the names. It's a matter of clear communication, if I were on a board where the Cyrillic transcriptions(I presume, forgive my ignorance) were predominant, I would use those, so we're all on the same page. Aside from this quirk, I generally find your posts to be well thought out and interesting, so I hope you're not taking my minor irritation as a full on attack. And while Tolkien and Robinson weren't related, I might suggest that ol' JRR wrote a little three book trilogy about Sugar Ray, at least you could draw that conclusion from the title of the series...
Oleg himself begged Putin for (and was granted) Russian citizenship. Ironically, this was in the same calendar year that he previously declared himself emphatically to be American. Had a hard time making up his mind, I guess.
Two southpaws. A bit hard to call. It could come down to Sander's conditioning in the later rounds as Ibragimov vs. a big puncher preferred to counter rather than lead.
