I don't mind RAG's habit of using European fighters' native spellings (I won't say "correct", because there's really no such thing when dealing with transliteration between disparate alphabets) rather than going with their more well-known Germanized/Anglicized/Russified variants...although I do think a distinction ought to be made between that and my own habit of generally using boxers' full real names. In casual discourse I don't mind using their "stage names" (or ring monikers, if you will) in the same manner as nicknames, but at the end of the day that is what I consider them. In a formal context, like a title for a RBR thread for instance, my leaning will always be to go with the "Walker Smith, Jr." and if people don't realize who I mean off the bat (and if so, can't take 5 seconds to Google it and be like "Oh, that's who, okay, now I know that's SRR's real name, good to know") then fuck 'em. Other people's double-bind of ignorance and short attention spans isn't my problem. To me "Sugar Ray Robinson" is no different than "Iron Mike" or "The Hispanic Causing Panic". Walker Smith Jr., Michael Gerard Tyson, and Juan Ernesto Lazcano are the names I would use for any officious/ceremonial purposes.

I have and will continue to defend this practice of mine, and consider it less pedantic than what RAG does with his insistence upon imposing European identity on fighters even when they have themselves eschewed it favoring their Anglicized/Germanized/Russified/whatever exonyms. Others may disagree, and I'm sure RAG himself probably feels the opposite.

Everybody's just doing their own thing, and that's fine. If you can't suss out who RAG means when he says Maskajew from context and the few seconds of effort to figure it out is stressing you that badly, just ignore RAG's posts from now on. If people don't like seeing middle names in my RBR titles, nobody is putting a gun against their heads and demanding they read or participate in them. :deal:

Also, in the spirit of pedantry, the OP still hasn't answered my question.

Sultan, or his cousin Timur? If you forgot they were contemporaries in the HW contention scene and that but for a few turns of fate their legacies might've ended up neck & neck (as they were until maybe the last 2-3 fights of Sultan's career), that's your problem. Not specifying the first name is presumptuous.

Just like putting "Gomez" in a title by itself without saying Wilfredo (or at the very least Bazooka to provide some definitive context instead of just assuming that a surname that is extremely common in a fighter's home nation can be synonymous with a single individual such that you can make the presumptuous move of using it like a mononym) isn't something I'd ever advise.

For that matter, Corey or Corrie Sanders? :deal:

If someone responded to your poll as though it were Timur vs. Corey, that would be your fault, not theirs. I don't care if Sultan and Corrie "seem a little more famous". Exactitude and thoroughness are not a lot to ask one to strive for, especially in the Classic section.

Ibragimov was much better than the glass jawed Maskaev.
English is indeed a language...composed of more than just Germanic influences.
This "jew" business in denoting both Maskaev and the Islam practicing Ibragimov is troublesome...kinda "antisemitic-ish".

Timur would be a top five win for either of them.

Edit: Top ten for Sanders. Top 5 for Iggy.

    Corrie over 18 holes.

    Sultan over 10, 12 or 15 rounds.

I was just thinking about this fight earlier today! I think it really depends on which Corrie we’re talking are talking about to be honest.

I think the “Meh… I just wanna get this guy the hell outta here so I can get back on the green and break in the new driver that arrived in the mail yesterday” get stopped by Sultan late rounds in an absolute BARN BURNER of a fight.

Sultan had an absolute GRANITE chin and great gas tank. Sultan could crack too! Not quite as hard as Corrie but close. BAD recipe for The Sniper.

Now mid 90’s Corrie could box! He moved very well and had an underrated pesky right jab along with that power when he sat on his shots. I think that Corrie actually outboxes Sultan in a competitive by clear UD.

I favor Sanders to pull away on the back nine to win rather easily.

    That’s if we’re talking golf.

In a fight, Sultan pulls away in the latter half of the fight and probably puts Corrie away when he puts his foot on the gas against a tiring Sanders.

Ibragimov outboxes him down the stretch and takes a decision.
