I mean, it means that we still have a young-ish titleholder who just proved that the division is not as weak as everyone seems to say it is. Think about it like this. With Ibrag winning, it shows that a 44 year old ex champion can't come back and take over, as so many have said. And Ibragimov is the probably the weakest titleholder of the four, and the aging ex champion couldnt' even get by him.............:good Now I love Evander, but I think Ibragimov winning is certianly a plus for the division's credibility. If our weakest title holder can't be beaten by the aging great, I guess the divsion held its own a bit today. And also, Ibragimov has now built a bit more credibility, which will help boost the demand for any possible unification fights that may come up in the future................:good
true enough, he was easily beat and showed he's not even close to the top of the division, and didn't you pick him as the winner ?
But he fights like he's at least 40 yrs old, there's nothing special about him. Also how does beating Briggs and Holyfield by decision give him credibility?
Since Briggs is to fight Wladimir or wants to and Holyfield is an ATG, this good wins did nothing but put Sultan in perspective for the unfications that should happen, starting with the WBA/WBO against Chagaev. The problem for Sultan may be Tony Thompson knocking on his door but I believe Ibragimov can win against him with the sort of strategy he has been using wisely.
It is best for the division's future...he is a younger fighter who can make for good/intriguing fights.
Yes, I did pick Holy to win, but I was obviously wrong, but that's not such a bad thing, especially when the outcome is better for the heavyweight division, overall. :good
Depends. With Evander winning, it would have been good in the fact him winning would have brought much needed media attention back to the sport, that him losing doesnt. Plus, with that the infuse of new fans from it (think Foreman in the comeback stage of his career). On top of that, you KNOW Evander would only push for unification fights. He is a throwback in that way. His past resume proves that is what he would do. Will Sultan? Dont know...I hope so, but with so many different sanctioning bodies and mandatories and what-have-you, ya never know what will come up before a fight with Wlad-Peter-Chagaev. With Evander winning, boxing would have thrived in the short term, if Sultan goes on to fight in only unification fights, then him winning is good in the long term. Either way, we shall see.
