I dunno, it's always been my thought that the minute that bell rang you were in there to win, not "survive". It was a joke of a fight and I hope this clown never gets another fight in this country. Arum should be ashamed too. JET
The guy was clearly behind on the scorecards, claimed he wasn't feeling Pacs power, looked relatively fresh, was having success with his little offense......but STILL decided to stay in his shell in the last couple of rounds. He deserves all the criticism he gets.
Im not going to attack Clotteys character like some are, i feel that its fair to aim criticism at him, no doubt.... but to think that he somehow has an achievment because he lasted longer then Cotto and Hatton, he doesnt. Cotto and Hatton came to win, if Cotto had went in with the sole aim to last the distance, he could have went the distance too. He was busted up and knocked down because he put it all on the line for 5 rounds and tried to tame the monster, and heart is more then just absorbing punishment, heart is absorbing the punishment and pushing through and keep trying to win.... I understand you respecting that Clottey didnt get blown out, but there is a reason fighters get busted up and beaten up against Pac, and its because they are there to beat him.... lasting the distance because you didnt come prepared to do that, IMO isnt something worthy of a lot of praise. Yes, i dont entirely blame clottey, most peoples activity will drop if a guy is throwing 1200 punches at them with the speed and power of pac, but regardless, there were also plenty of times he had his chances and he simply didnt pull the trigger. The heat he is feeling is fair imo (well i do think the disgrace and all that kind of thing is overblown, i am not trying to attack his character as a person)
Wow, nicely put. Who'd expect this on an internet forum, though I don't know what you mean with the last sentence.
he got paid millions... for not fighting... and he can say he went 12 rounds with manny and i'm sure he let everyone know to throw it down for manny decision. .... they are singing songs about him right now. to me ....he's a hardheaded piece of ****.
Good post and gives us a good perspective. He could've thought about his daughter... he showed us he's more human than a warrior. Same say nothing wrong with that... others argue it's a boxers duty to give us a show or to show some effort or pride to win. In a sense, for Clottey it's almost just a job I guess. A shame tough. Not the appropriate mentality for a boxer.
Really? Those two losses are always on my mind when it comes to Cotto, especially the fight with Margarito. He could have done sooooo much better vs Margo if he just fought a little bit smarter. That's a shame really. I don't mind the Pac loss that much, Pac is an ATG and Cotto just lost to a better fighter that night.
I'm going through all these BS posts that try and pat Clottey on the back for making out alive with a fatass check. All of you ****in' people can kiss my ass with that bull****. Strippers make a lot of money...think they give a **** when someone calls them a *****. Or if this chick has a daughter or son and she or he has to hear about that **** from students that ran into the mother shaking her tits around? Oh who cares because she laughs it off to the bank?! Or the crooked lawyer who bails out corporate criminals having to hear about what a low ball piece of **** they are...seriously?... So once again...I ask...is it better, as a boxer, leave it out in the ring and more than likely get KO'd or leave intact but put on a pitiful survival fight?
I don't like to think of Cotto in that light. Much like anyone else I have a liking to. I'm not going to always remember what they did wrong, but try and remember the things they did right...
