The real yellow card is when Dana blackballs you anyhow...if you fight like that dana let's you sit on the sidelines as long as he can he he usually tells you what he thought of a boring fight.
There were some clear cut moments where they were unfair and that is where the problem with that system lies. There could always be a board that reviews to see if it was justified or not. I understand Dana is cheap when it comes to alot of this fighters but some of them aren't earning their money because they aren't fighting.
Why not just give the yellow card and maybe take a point away for the second one? No reason at all to steal money from the sport. Has anybody ever seen a marked increase in the quality of fight after a yellow card anyway?
I always thought the card system was good for the fights in Pride. No one wants to lose ten percent of their purse. I always thought it was funny whenever a yellow card was issued and Bas Rutten would immediately say "ten percent of your purse -- gone. Whoosh." He doesn't say they need to fight or so and so should step it up. He talks about the lost money. I suppose like any other rule - the card system can be abused. MMA fighters make diddly squat compared to boxers - so i certainly don't want to begrudge them any of the chicken scratch they actually make.
Yellow cards are so ****ing stupid I'm shocked people welcome the idea. I think it's the whole scorned fan base who still clings to the idea that everything Pride did was great, and TEH UFC IS ****ING STOOPID! First off, referees **** up all the time as is. Every card, people ***** about stoppage this, point deduction that, that stand up was uncalled for, blah blah. Their job is extremely difficult, and thankless, and quite frankly even the best are often unable to process what is happening and react accordingly in the proper manner and proper amount. Now, putting them in a position to ROB a fighter of his money based on their subjective opinion at that moment in time, guilty of the flaws of humanity, is unfair to both the fighters, and the referees. And then you ask, why not take away the money deduction? Well, referees already have the power to warn fighters, and to take away points from them. So what difference does waving a little yellow piece of paper away make from a verbal statement? In addition, a break in action is also produced as Yuji Shithead Shimata waves the goddamned piece of paper like a scolding father at the fighter who isn't favored by the crowd.
I don't like the card system from Pride. Anytime a fighting org has control over both the referee and a fighter's purse like that it's a clear conflict of interest. It would only be marginally better in the UFC, due to the athletic comissions providing the referees.
