Ranked in the Top Ten of what? Bivins was a green 177 pounder who had lost 3 of his previous 6 (and then came back to beat Pastor).

Impelletiere was in his final fight and had a mediocre record of 10-6. A circus act.

Ettore had won 4 of his previous 9.

Likewise, Ramage hadn't won in his previous 5 fights.

Gus Dorazio actually beat Pastor not the other way round.

If you choose not to look too closely.

Lem Franklin was the #1 ranked heavyweight contender when Pastor beat him.

I think that I am right in saying that Turkey Tompson, and Maxie Rosenbloom were ranked when he beat them.

Bivins was coming off a win over Lesnevich, and would be the #1 ranked contender in two weight divisions by the end of the same year.

Ray Impelittiere was ranked #6 in the end of year rankings for 1936, after Pastor had beaten him.

Ettore was coming off a win over Gus Dorazio when Pastor beat him.

Finally even if I am wrong, and Pastor's resume is not very good, I could always argue that he wasn't particularly successful against Joe Louis anyway!

That would be the smart play, see where the money is after the Wilder, Fury fight and what A.J. does in 2019

By that rationale so could Chris Byrd.

Are you seriously comparing Chris Byrd, to Max Schmeling as a puncher?

But yes, Chris Byrd for his lack of power, did put a dent in men with good chins!

Vitally and Tua, the men that you hold up as head to head monsters, almost caved in under his limited power!

    No.

Are you comparing Max Schmeling to the hardest punchers that have ever fought at HW?

Not the hardest, but perhaps among the most dangerous.

He hit hard, and he knew how to play "pull the wings off the butterfly!"

Max had serious pop when he landed and he landed on almost everyone. He was a very skilled operator but was overwhelmed early on three occasions.

Usyk looks great, fluid, fast, imaginative, tough. He can be hit.

Still too early to make a definitive call on this one but I am leaning slightly toward Usyk who seems to have another gear and be able to shift up when required.

    Who the f*ck knows?

He can be hit but his defense is generally excellent.

Sweet Pea, Locche, Benitez, they all got hit too.

Usyk took digs from Briedis and Gassiev. I’m sure he can survive most guys around the 200lb mark, and that includes Schmeling.

    IMO of course!

This. Power doesn’t mean anything if you can’t hit anything. Max had an excellent balance of power and timing in his right hand, which made it a deadly weapon for anybody he fought. This is why Louis jumped on Max early in the rematch before Max could start finding that range.

Prediction: Usyk eventually loses to a fighter who is much bigger than Max Schmeling and who fights nothing like Schmeling. Some forum members then offer the loss as incontrovertible proof that Usyk would have lost to Schmeling.

Lol Usyk is a 6'3 200 pound modern skilled fighter. Of course he would of beat Max. The only people who think he wouldn't are these clueless old guys who should be more concerned with their adult diapers than boxing. These old senile guys still believe that everything from their era was better than what is going on now. Max Baer would probably lose weight and fight at 175 today and would still be considered a tomato can because of his lack of skill compared to modern fighters.

Usyk does well until he is hit. It then becomes a different fight. Today details are lost to time but Schmeling was considered the hardest puncher in the world post Dempsey and pre Baer. Max’s right hand was an awesome weapon, quick, powerful and perfectly timed.
