While i'd favor the champ to retain, i think pirog would do alot better than
sergei did and i suggested this on another post before last nights fight.
Pirog has that herky body movement and lateral upper body movement
like maravilla has, so this fight would pit two guys with quite similar styles.
Another thing is that pirog isn't striclty a counter-puncher and jabber like
dzin is either. He likes to walk his man down off angles and punch likewise.
Shaw did a good job by getting sergei this fight, but it was the wrong soviet in there last night. Golovkin i don't think would fair much better than sergei did against martinez, but pirog would fare much better. It would make for a more intriguing fight I think.

    Martinez would beat Pirog.

Jacobs would beat Pirog in a rematch for my money.

Would love to see it and think it would be a good matchup. Which is why it will never happen.

:patsch Wow. I guess you can't get over it that a pasty white russian
sparked your homeboy and won every round in the process. Log off!

I'm not big on Pirog, honestly. The stoppage against Jacobs was impressive, yeah, but Jacobs was overhyped going into that one. If they fought again, I'd pick Jacobs to beat him. Pirog is nowhere near Martinez's level.

what are you talking about? I am not African-American. I have no beef with Russians.

I had Jacobs up 3-1 after 4 rounds, as did all three judges. Pirog sparked him out, full credit to him for doing that.

A rematch is a new fight altogether.

I don't see why you have to bring your racism into this at all

Pirog definitely would fair much better.

Some Martinez fans get their panties twisted in a bunch, but fact is, Dzinziruk wasn't all that great. He was hyped up by HBO to try and make it look like they weren't showing us another bullsh!t fight. Dzinziruk's best wins are Joel Julio, and Daniel Santos. That isn't saying much. Even for people who hadn't seen Dzinziruk before, once a couple of rounds passed last night, they could see that Dzinziruk was not that good. Extremely robotic and stiff. What was claimed by some idiot writers as the best jab in boxing(I had to laugh when I read that) wasn't even the best jab in the ring last night, and didn't look any where near the top 10 jabs in boxing right now. Martinez did what he should have done to a smaller, and somewhat limited opponent.

Great KO by Pirog, but I had Jacobs up 3-1 or even at 2 a piece. Pirog, definitely has more upside, and I would rather watch Pirog fight than Jacobs.

As far as being pasty? I disagree, who would have thought the Russian would have more soul than the brother in the ring. lol.

If HBO were smart, they'd match Pirog against whoever out of Angulo and Kirkland they don't match Sergio up with to build up a fight between the winners.

I don't see it happening, unfortunately. It'd make too much sense.

Martinez would smash pirog even worse imo, pirog is one of these guys who needs to fight a few fighters most people know to judge what level hes at, not jump in right a the deep end. Maybe try to crack the mytical p4p top 10 list then go for the big boys, if you dare

I said that before Jacobs was training with Roach

but adding Roach to his corner just makes me more confident

Martinez has beaten 1 legit MW in a Pavlik who was in poor shape at the time. Only 1. Let's not get overboard with the hype.
