Just had a thought an ideal next opponent for Josh Kelly would be Frankie Gavin.

Possibly not a step up from some opponents in terms of ability but gives Josh the chance to add a decent name in British boxing to his record, quite easily at that. It gets his name out there without any real danger.

The fight would likely headline a normal Saturday night matchroom show. Don’t get me wrong it wouldn’t be a good fight but it would make business sense for Josh’s career imo.

Who would others like to see as his next opponent? As well as other British prospects.

That fight would be a real stinker, bad clash of styles

Joe Pigford - apparently he’s back training with Ricky Hatton - should have fought in March but no sign of result? Exciting fighter and a come fwd style, but probably too dangerous to be risked as an opponent.

Agree it would hardly be a spectacle but getting a known British name on his record would boost his reputation

If Kelly wins his next fight which is a big step up someone like Debon Alexander or Andre Berto would be good fights at this stage.

Gavin was beaten by Eggington in an albeit cracking fight. Gavin won’t boost anyone’s resume at this stage. He’s lost too many fights.

I'd rather watch him fight Gavin from Gavin and Stacey than Frankie Gavin. I never want to see Frankie in a ring again.

I think him making a fool out of Connor benn would make the most sense for him commercially. You can hear casuals saying it now "That Josh kelly, didn't he beat Nigel benns son" I don't think it would be a particularly hard fight for him. But there's no doubting Connor benns popularity is way more enlarged than most of his skill set

Gavin is absolutely done, turned up looking like a slob for his last fight and got iced.

Maybe he could fight David Avanesiyan or does he not want that work?

Couldn't think of a worse match up. Kelly doesn't need a commercial boost, he needs a decent fight.

The way Booth has spoken about him saying he will chuck him in with top 10 now etc and he is the most giftest he has ever worked with, his opponents have been very poor. Don't know anything about Ray Robinson's style but on paper definitely a step up from what he been fighting, albeit not a huge one.

Gavin is garbage and a significant step down from Robinson

He will get beat. We know it and he knows it. I don’t see the point in rushing him in to fights where the odds are stacked against him. Competitive fights yes, 50/50s yes. 75/25 in the oppositions favour - pointless.
