If a boxer fought a martial arts master at boxing, what would be the result?

Horrible comparison. Baseball and hockey is nothing a like. Most martial arts have some common comparisons. All have to deal with human combat.

    FAIL.

They are both playing with a wooden stick and wearing helmet. Many Baseball catchers now have Hockey goalie mask.Anyway Chuck would destroy the 2 teams at the same time.

This is a stupid question with an interesting stipulation.

You said B level boxer like Luis Collazo versus someone who is a master at Kung Fu or some sort of strike oriented fighting style in a boxing match.

I would favor the Kung Fu master hands down. Someone as hittable and limited as Collazo will not stand to the reflexes and speed of a Martial Artist. But if you were talking world class elite vs. a true martial artist, then I would favor the boxer.

That's almost as pointless as saying would a world class soccer player beat a decent track Olympian in a cross country race? :huh Seeing as how both endure lengthy periods of running, it seems it would be fair...wrong. One focuses merely on running, while the other focuses on the task of getting and passing the ball towards the goal.

Now in a street fight...many intangibles are to be taken into account. Who is the master boxer? Who is the martial artist? Martial arts comes from a long period of history and from a time era of no regard to civil law, hence the need for defending oneself from tyranny. We live in no such age or time any longer. So in reality the actual level of experience in true life-and-death fighting goes more towards the individual who is a natural born killer with such instincts. It truly depends on the man himself. You can be the most skilled fighter in the world, but hitting someone in the face and trying to ACTUALLY hurt him are two different things.

You must also take into account the level of "ring genralship" of the given turf that is being fought upon. Boxers tend to have a better sense of surrounding in a given fight whereas Martial Artists focus more on speed, reflexes, and technique...the art itself of fighting. Sometimes if a fight happens on certain terrain, it may give one fighter the advantage over the other. In a small hallway or a cramped area, the boxer would definitely have the advantage. In an open space or field, the MA would have the advantage.

You must also consider the savvyness of each individual. Just consider Bruce Lee. He fought and beat many people because he understood what was necessary to take away from a person's strengths and take that away from them whilst luring them into his own. Bernard Hopkins does the same thing in the ring. Mayweather...so on and so forth.

Generalizing such events takes away from the whole concept and idea of what it means to discipline yourself as a fighter/combatant.

Actually he killed it. I was actually hoping for some constructive responses where people actually take the time to think about my question and give a constructive response.

Depends-- but all things being equal the boxer.

    1. Martial arts experts don't use boxing gloves. And that right off would be a big advantage for the boxer.

    2. Boxers are conditioned to box in the three minute round format. I wouldn't think the martial arts experts would -- I'd think the boxers would have the just have a better training regimen and thus be in better shape.

    3. I don't know if the martial artist would be as "game"--wouldn't spar with the intensity that the boxers do.....a lot of martial arts is peace of mind and philosophy where the boxers have that innate toughness.
