Just assuming, man. I know I wouldn't buy Khan v Prescott II, unless Sky packs the bill again with a number of title shots...I wouldn't buy that bout if it was the sole promotion, but that's just me.

There are a number of boxers Khan can fight who are of a higher standard than Prescott, fought and beaten guys of a higher standard also. Not all of those guys have picked up a knockout against Khan, the rematch would offer a mental challenge for Khan to overcome, but that's about it...other than that, he wouldn't have to do much thinking or working out because Prescott is very limited if you don't allow him to get off with his big shots.

Throw Khan in with a number of different styles and get him accustomed to them before bouts with Alexander/Bradley.

Besides, Khan has just been in with an all-round better boxer/brawler in Maidana...took some good shots to the chin, and took a fair bit of punishment along the way. No-one would blame if he took an "easier" bout (even though I don't rate Prescott at all, and consider Khan's other options as greater challenges)...before they get to the 'final' of the 140lbs tournament.

Prescott for me is a backward step. Vazquez showed him up, then Mitchell made him look very ordinary (who was then stopped by the also limited Katsidis). It may make money, but Khan coming home will generate a fair bit of money also. He shouldn't be thinking about how much money he generates at the minute, or how many PPV's he sells...and I'm assuming Roach will have the same thinking I do.

So you're basing the relevance of a fight, on how much money it can make? Well Haye-Harrison made **** loads of money, and look at the reception that got.

And seriously, you're placing too much emphasis on Khan needing an opponent that will make him loads of money. Khan can pretty much make a truckload whoever he fights. McCloskey will bring the whole of Ireland with him, and the money Khan makes from that fight, won't be too far off from a Prescott one. The Sky Hype Machine will put the wheels in motion for any fight. Just like they'll build the whole 'revenge' theme for Prescott, they'll build the 'England vs Ireland' thing for McCloskey.

The fact remains, fighting Prescott will be a big step back in quality, and will do very little for his progression. I maintain that McCloskey is a better fighter than Prescott, and he'll give Khan more things to think about in the ring.

Ricky Hatton v Amir Khan would make even more money than Prescott and McCloskey; hell Amir Khan v a topless Gemma Atkinson would be the biggest boxing fight in the UK but that doesn't make it justifiable.

Khan just defeated the biggest puncher at JWW, and we all are ok with him taking a tune up fight as long as he fight's the winner of Bradley/Alexander, so why would you risk it with another big puncher? Prescott and McCloskey are on the same level, so you'd pick somebody who will push you but not threaten the greater picture.

I barely see Prescott cracking the top of the B-classers, so as long as Khan continues to beat top-tier opponents, the Prescott loss will ultimately become insignificant as his career continues and Prescott's stagnates.

Unless Khan feels the need to close that chapter of his life for his mentality, I don't think a rematch is necessary unless Prescott also improves to deserve a shot.

On second thought, Amir Khan v a topless Gemma Atkinson is justifiable. Make it happen.

The reason the fight is of such interest and can generate money is that most casual boxing fans know very little about the sport and look at records on boxrec and how many losses a fighter has. The Prescott fight can therefore be marketed as a grudge match with Khan avenging the sole defeat of his career...

I wouldn't say the fight is completely irrelevant but there are more credible opponents out there for Khan
