Golovkin would be a big draw, if he would be American. You guys forget that he's seen as a Russian. Liberal America did everything they could to villainize whole East Europe and parts of Asia. Only hardcore fans and Kazakh immigrants are willing to pay for GGG in the US, that's why in this context 150k was a huge number. He made good money but he will most likely not make the big numbers like Floyd. Floyd is in his country and has 42 Million African Americans who will have most likely symphaty towards him.

I really do not get you with these absurd comparisons. The US is a third world country among developed nations. No healthcare, insanely high student debts, millions of homeless, racism, a divided nation, poverty, gang violence, drug abuse, trillions of debts spend for wars tey can not win but nevertheless, the big companies and money is there for the elite, for celebrities, for sportsmen.

The people who organize the fights in Vegas, they have money the Brits can only dream of. Boxing is only a second thought for them. It's about casinos, advertising. Who knows how much the promoters, managers and fighters really get.

Furthermore, it's the history of boxing. All the big fights when boxing was an almost exclusive American sport, were in certain arenas and it's the dream of many boxers nowadays to fight there, where their idols fought.

Not many are as lucky as the Klitschko brothers but thanks to German mastermind Bernd Bönte, they were able to make more money in Germany and fill more stadiums than most boxers in the US. It was a long way and I am actually still suprised that the Klitschkos became such a big thing in Germany while Huck, Sturm, Abraham or Brähmer can only dream of their success. Sauerland or Universum were nothing compared to K2.

You should rather ask yourself why the UFC is taking boxing over in the US in every aspect rather then why an American fighter has more fans in America than a Kazakh or Ukrainan fighter who can hardly speak English. Golovkin would fill stadiums in Kazakhstan and TV numbers would be huge but it's a small, poor nation. Same about the Phillippines. They have other problems to deal with rather than establishing a market that could compete with the US.

The US already has an established market for boxing. The UK is currently like a teenager with a brigh future in terms of marketing of boxing. Russia has also a decent market but their top boxers are at CW, which isn't popular and they had no hope in a young Kovalev, which is why he moved to the US. Povetkin is avoided and wild accusations about drug use which didn't happen after the whole drama was exposed ruined one of the biggest fights that could happen there.

 

I'm mentioning Ward going to England for Froch because he would've had a higher payday and there wouldn't have been anything wrong it. There's nothing wrong with a star leaving his home turf for a higher payday just like in the examples I gave in my previous post.

Noone claims he's a big draw like May/Pac or a Mexican/Puerta Rican star, but he IS one of the bigger draws. Wlad sold out arenas in Germany and a big household name and he travelled for bigger money. It's normal, get over it. Ward is fighting the most anticipated bout of the year, there's no comprasion in that area.

Ward is the best American fighter, and probably one of the best p4p fighters in all combat sports, so of course he has a fanbase and can sell. And I wasn't neccesarily referring to Wlad travelling to US. He also travelled to Russia and was going to travel to UK.

 

I don't agree with GGG fans as far as Ward goes , at all. As for the offer from Canelo , when you receive a flat fee offer from a year out, It means you're guarenteed to negotiate a better deal until It actually comes through. I'm not sure how much GGG deserves, but He'll definetly get more than what Khan made which was around 13 mill.
