I'd rather see a fighter leave a little early than hang on to long.

dont get mad cause i put you into your place.
no one is revising history, if for one second you think Calzaghe was way more past it than Lewis was at retirement then there is no hope for you.

You obviously had an agenda to discriminate Lewis's retirement while accepting Calzaghe's and its backfiring big time.

:deal Robinson, Leonard, Ali, Duran, etc they will be remembered for what they did in their best moments. Only the 14 yr olds will bring up "Oh, Leonard got beat by Camacho and Norris dude so Floyd is better, huh huh huh." and **** like that. Most fighters have alot of pride to know when to hang them up.

Actually the thread was more so towards fighters like Roy Jones Jr who feesibly could have retired after Ruiz, despite Tarver calling him out.

Lewis is just a perfect example of a guy who fought up to the very limit and then pulled out with unfinished business.

Calzaghe is the perfect example of a guy who pretty much finished his business before retiring - sure, Froch, Ward and Dawson have made compelling cases since but that's only since.

As for the Cotto blowjobbing big lipped mutant - some of us have jobs bra, we've got to go do them from time to time, can't spend all day jacking off over pictures of Cotto like you.

A fighter can retire when he wants to, its wrong to condone them. Its smart to go out when you know you wont be as dangerous as you was.

Its the deluded guys like Holyfield we should worry about.

I think Lennox and Joe both did it right.

They both knew when to get out, and did not embarrass themselves in the process. Shoulda, coulda, woulda, the fact was Joe was not beat, though I don't think his resume was the best, but he did have a stellar career and chose to cash out against two American legends. I have no problem with that.

Lennox was starting to become an old man, was obviously out of shape, but held on enough to make Vitali's face into hamburger to win the fight and got out.... Nothing wrong with that either.

I wish Roy would have retired after fighting Tarver the first time...

Even though that was a close fight, It added much to Roy's legacy being able to drop down from HW and win the LHW title against a good hungry fighter in his very next fight. That was Roy's career defining fight in my opinion. That was the one last great fight of a great past prime fighter, he got old overnight, and it was more sudden than I had expected.

Name all the fighters that have dropped from HW, and beat the LHW champ..... They are all hall of fame fighters to my knowledge.

You're right.I happen to think if any fighter wants to get out when he wants,he has every right to.Both Lennox and Calzaghe should be applauded for getting out on their own terms.HOWEVER,Lennox would have looked better had he not promised a Klitchko rematch, and Calzaghe proved himself to be a liar by swearing he would never fight Jones because he knew Jones was shot, then fight him in his last fight.

of course. everyone knows ali should have retired sooner, some say after foreman, some say after frazier 3, some say after spinks.

lewis was right to retire. look how old he was. he did brilliantly to tko vitali, and that enhanced his legacy imo
