I agree - but he couldn't get near him (toe or not), and that is the point... NO amount of smaller HWs can. So lets reveiw the S-HWs and get a TOP 100, though many will be less than journeymen, but still nice to see WHO we've got at the size/weights - the S-HWs.
I don't know that we can get to 100 S-HW's. When did the 15 round era end? Sometime in the mid 80s, right? Seems to me like when championship fights went from 15 to 12 rounds is about the time the S-HWs really started to emerge. There should be a movement in boxing to bring back the 15 round fight, IMO.
look @ who they lost 2 @ how , then look @ who did they beat @ how . never forget 2 ask y , and there u go .
TS stated over 6'3" and over 225 lbs yet u insist on introducing a 6'2.5" who in his better days was around 200 lbs and then bloated , lets introduce Michael Moorer & Juan Carlos Gomez as well , and then Jirov , whom wasn't fat either @ 230 lbs . Max Baer is overrated in every aspect : power , punching power , punch resistance , size , everything . Put him with former lightheavy moorer and he gets stopped .
Audley's record is not as bad as ppl pretend it is . Tyson Fury may still achieve something , he is still young . Wladimir @ his age already had his ass owned & Lewis @ his age was still hiding in d amateur ranks from tyson . Carl Williams was quite 1 dimensional as they say , although successful @ it 4 a clean fighter (Holmes & Ali resembled him in their style but were all time foulists , especially Ali)
Big NO to Super HW! Why? Because nowadays most of fighters there would be just fat *******s with no dedication to training which would be even bigger now, as there would be no fast small heavies to threaten them. Fights would be boring to death. And what with those guys who are considered too small for HW? Simple. If you don't have enough power to compete against big guys then make weight and go down to f*cken Cruiser Weight. It's not Super HW that we need. It's the respect for CW so that cruisers won't have to pump themselves up and chase big paychecks outside their weight category
the prospect of S-HWs has nothing to do with HWs who lack power, But HWs that can't get near them simply because of the HUGE SIZE disparity... simple. these guys, even if there not of the same caliber of fighters, can run away with a contest simply because guys are too small to get NEAR them. anyway this thread is about seeing how many actual S-HWs we've had & have in the last 30 years or so since the birth of the giants. If we can round up the names I'll bet worldwide we'd be surprised to find we've got a couple of hundred or more. maybe naming them by Country might make it easier, and then place them from there!
I once thought that CW was unneeded , but it relied on d contemporary pre fight weighing in times and weight cutting which r unhealthy , dangerous and idiotic . Weigh ins should b held immediately prior 2 entering d ring , d weight differential @ cw is just 2 big , i say bring back d 190 lbs limit (which is where most contemporary lightheavies and even a few supermiddles will reside) , call everything from 190 up 2 210 as supercruiseweight (not my invention ; which is where all d cruisers and some lightheavies will reside) 210-230 will b heavyweight and every1 who walks d streets @ above 230 while trained &@ good shape should b considered a hw . d idea of catchweights is old and good , i think that there should b a limit on d height differentials between fighters even in d same weight class . 230 is not a holy number though and 225 or something between them or even somewhere above 230 could b good as well 4 d lower limit of d superheavyweight division .
Haye is a tentative backfoot counter-puncher at Heavyweight (the worst style possible against the clinically scientific boxer-puncher Wlad). Mr. Self-Marketer wasn't trying to close the distance & be aggressive, it's just not his style at Heavyweight, he was cautiously looking for counter-punch opportunities.
But if one small heavy has enough power (f.e Tyson) he can crush those big guys who rely mostly on size advantage. And if you are too weak or "small" to do this then...I said it before...go to cruiser.
Tyson could have never reached some1 like Valuev or Vitali . Frazier was slightly taller than tyson probably , had a longer reach on paper , foreman was shorter even than wladimir klitschko . Now how many times did frazier reach foreman full force ? how do u think a 6'3" Frazier vs a 5'10.5" Foreman would have looked like ? d same ?
well Chagaev could reach Valuev, didn't he? I also think than young Tyson's balance could give him some good chances against Klits. Fraizer was tough so that he could compete against bigger guys and apply lots of pressure but I think he could fight at CW. See? The difference between our points is that I want to give some prestige to CW so that small heavies would actually want to fight there, while you want to create division for super heavies which would then leave HW a division for fat cruisers. Also think of current big heavies...Dimitrienko vs Helenius...yeah...killer. HW is so poor mostly because big men are so lazy not because small heavies are too small;P And finally what difference would there be between CW and HW? We can merge them but the weight gap would be huge and this would encourage most boxers to remain fat and out of shape
Valuev carried his opponents . While his stoppage wins were real , they usually were unintentional . Valuev vs Chagaev , Valuev vs Holyfield , Ibragimov vs Holyfield , Valuev vs Bergeron , were all circus acts . I watched Valuev vs Chagaev and that was 1 of d things that led me 2 this conclusion . Chagaev didn't really reach him , it was a semi contact exhibition . U really don't get that there r ppl whose size is between CW & SHW ? ppl like Corrie Sanders , David Tua , Tyson , Joe Mesi whom may have found even d 200lbs limit 2 low 4 them , but while in shape could risk any1 up to a certain size range from them . Going by your criteria , y not cancel everything between 135lbs & 160 lbs ? d lighter smaller middles could go @ make 135 lbs and b effective there .
