Let's say, IDK, 2 weight classes below you, and you refuse to fight him. Is that considered ducking? Or does the rule only apply when the bigger or more "dangerous" fighter is the one calling you out? :think When it's outside of one's weight class, what constitutes a "duck"? Because surely you can't fight everyone that calls you out.

  2. Be ready to drain yourself if you are not the marquee fighter or have a better plan than Marquez did.
Marquez called out Floyd not the other way around. Manuel moved up because he wanted to fight Floyd but was not prepared to be out matched like he was. It's not like Floyd knocked him out.

Personally I only consider anything a "duck" if its a fighter in your own weight class. Up or down doesnt matter.

You school the fighter in front of you. The guy you didn't fight they will say that you ducked. Even if he never earned his shot.

Hopkins ducked the Jones rematch because he was too greedy. This is when Hopkins was the undisputed MW champ of the world while Jones was the undisputed LHW champ of the world.

    60/40 I'll beat yo ass!!!!

the challenger will have to meet weight requirements. it will just be an exhibition/prize fight for the bigger fighter and a legacy fight for the smaller fighter. ducking applies to challengers on the weight you are campaigning only.

Smaller fighters can call out bigger fighters, but bigger fighters shouldn't call out smaller fighters.
When the small guy calls some out someone above there weight class it can be viewed as seeking greatest by beating the bigger man but when it's reversed it just looks like you are trying to pick on little guys.

Yup! Agreed! This is why catchweights should be removed from boxing instead of agreeing on a weight that neither (or one) feels comfortable fighting in.

If the smaller fighter calls you out AND is willing to fight in your weight
class, and you refuse to fight him, to me that is almost always a duck. If
the smaller fighter wants you to come down, then no it is not a duck.

Ducking is subjective i dont think there are clear parameters

Every fighter known to man is classified as a ducker on this forum

My definition of ducking tends towards the avoidance of mandatories.

There is always way more business involved than the normal fight fan knows about when it comes to just who fights who. Thus, when everyone in the sport from Rigo on up is calling out Mayweather, IMO he is not ducking, but doing business in making a selection of an opponent. The result, no matter what, is complaints by the fans of the 93 other fighters he didn't select that he is "ducking". Pretty murky and all individual interpretation...

It's pretty clear, however, when someone needs to make a particular defense to keep their belt and they don't do it within a reasonable time.

If you don't intend to honor the rules of the organization, then you should not accept their title belt.
