IF Adamek beats Vitali, would that surpass Buster Douglas beating Tyson?

...Tyson wasn't 40-years-old, man. Vitali is forty years old this month. No it wouldn't surpass Douglas. But it'd still be great, of course.

Douglas was a journeyman, B level fighter and Mike was on the fast track to ATGness.

Adamek is a top 10 HW, Vitali is 40 y/o.

But all in all, Douglas did have a size advantage on Tyson, had an iron chin, and hella power.

Adamek lacks power for his weight, is chinny, and is fighting the best KO artist in the history of boxing who happen to have one of the best chins in the history of boxing.

So yes, Adamek beating Vitali would be the biggest upset IMO in my lifetime.

    Not by a bazillion miles.

undefeated youngest champ ever who was undisputed on a reign of terror
    vs
40 year old once retired belt holder against former light heavy and cruiser champ

    Top 5 boxing upsets ever?

John Hopoate vs Big Bob Mirovic. I was there that night. Never forget it.
Hoppa by KO. Watching Big Bob fall like a mighty oak and Jeff Fenech fling the towel in was truly dramatic and a shock for the ages.

    That's my number one.

Also back then most of us knew that Tyson would be in trouble if he fought a big man with a very good jab. Douglas wasn't a good fighter, but he did have a great jab.........

TBH, I thought Buster's performance that night in Japan was one of the greatest fights any boxer ever displayed. After watching the 1st round, I remember saying that this guy has a legit chance to beat Tyson, his technique was that good that night.

Did Buster ever fight like that before or ever again afterwords? No, he didn't. He was inspired by the recent death of his Mother to go out there & beat some ass...become HW Champ of the World. Thats what makes this such a great story.

Plus, watching Tyson trying to put his mouthpiece back in was something I'll never forget!

    Priceless!!!

Tyson finally found himself on the wrong end of a beating that night.

Buster was indeed a lot bigger then Tyson..... and had physical tools to win the fight. So, while it was Tyson, in his prime, it was also a big, powerful man he was fighting.

Adamek is completely outgunned, outsized, in a weight he probably shouldnt even be fighting at, and against Vitali. However, Vitali is past it.

WOW! Sounds like you appreciated the fact that you witnessed history in the making with that upset.

I just don't know. I'm torn apart trying to decide which would be a greater upset. Vitalis age of 40 shouldn't be the factor that would diminish an Adamek victory. Everyone says TA has no chance, that VK is a Monster in all phases of the game. Douglas was what? A 40-1 underdog? Thats insane!

This is a tough one to figure out, for sure.

    :huh

VK is past it? What about Tyson banging all kinds of Jap girls instead of training? I remember the articles saying that Tyson was taking Buster lightly. Maybe this wasn't as big of an upset as they made it out to be.

What you said about Adamek being outgunned & the size factor will make this an upset for the ages!

    I'm sticking with that decision.:bart

I'd give it to him. As others have stated...Tyson shouldn't have that HUGE of a favorite. He was a beast of a fighter, but a lot of personal problems, training issues, etc, and add that to the fact that Douglas was bigger than him of course...Looking back wasn't the upset it should of been.
Vitali vs Adamek. Adamek is much smaller, much shorter, much chinnier, hasn't looked to incredible against guys like Arreola, etc. I'd say his win would be bigger, or about as big as tyson vs Douglas.

    Hell to the no.

Douglas vs. Tyson is probably the biggest upset in the history of the sport.

Up there in the rankings of historic upsets, but Douglas over Tyson is #1 and will stay that way for the foreseeable future.
