IF Adamek beats Vitali, would that surpass Buster Douglas beating Tyson?

If Adamek beat Vitali -- clearly the dominant hvy now -- it would be a HUGE upset, but nothing to compare with Douglas's stunning KO of Tyson, who was a scary beast at the time.

All good points, but don't forget about VK's highest HW KO percentage. Thats what scares me the most.

Adameks task is 2 fold. Get in & land combinations & then get out. The 2nd task is to avoid being KO'ed in the process.

Adameks advantage in that is Vitali is not a 1 punch KO artist.

He landed his best shots on Lewis, and only wobbled him.
He hammered on Briggs for 12 rounds, and bust him up bad, but didn't stop him.

He really does win by accumulation.

Adamek's issue will be avoiding the volume of punches that leads to a stoppage. I think he will be able to stand up a 1 off good shot.

I wish! It's a huge regret that I didn't, when he was fighting in Chicago at the UC and Aragon ballroom I wasn't as into boxing remotely as much as I am now and even if I was I lived out in the suburbs and would've had really no way of getting there. I will see him fight if he ever comes here again.

John...I remember watching boxing with my Dad (who fougth professionly during the Depression) in the late '50s when I was less than 10 yrs old. I've watched them all since then. And that night in Japan was something that inspired me to write I nice article about what Buster had accomplished. Basically, I built the article around the notion that for one night, Buster Douglas was The Best HW to have ever lived. He really fought that way that night. And don't forget...fought that way against the baddest Man on the Planet!

I just wish I could find that article I wrote!

:deal A Vitali loss would be big upset, but not compared to Buster-Tyson. I fear Adamek has not felt crunching power like Vitalis. Adameks legendary cheen will be put to the test like never before.

It would not be considered a bigger upset because Klitschko is nearing the end of his career; afterall he's 40 years old. Whereas Tyson when he fought Douglas was 24 years old and considered unbeatable by many and by most accounts some thought he'd challenge if not surpass Marciano's record. Tyson's popularity and perceived ability derived from his attributes of speed and power, his technical proficiency and what he did to his opponents on a consistent basis. I think a comparison with the closest similarity will be Michael Spinks against Larry Holmes back in 85. After all, bookmakers never made Tyson's routine defenses about whether Tyson would win or lose rather what round he would end it in. Adamek is definatley not worthy of being a 42-1 underdog. And if Vitaly gets old overnight and loses to Adamek the perception would be that Adamek got to an aging Vitaly which quiete frankly isn't Implausible

Hopefully some day you can get to an Adamek fight. I'm so lucky living in New Jersey (not really!), but at least Adamek moved here because of Ziggy Rozalski living in Jersey City. And because of that, I've met him many times (great guy, makes you feel like a friend) & been to many fight. I've ben to the Gunn, Estada, Grant, Maddalone & McBride fights.

Its awesome with all the red & white, & cheering for Adamek in Polish.

I'll settle for getting the Polish national team coming here for basically every other sport though :D. Besides, Fonfara came up here through the Chicago promotion and he's looking like he'll be a legit contender now as he gets more exposure. The Poles come out when he fights, dziewczyny included.

In Elizabeth, NJ. Which, it that time, the northeast area here was the hot spot for boxing. He trained in the same gym as Mickey Walker!
