He would have been destroyed in 2 rounds. Why are people saying he would have faired better? Let's think about this for a moment. Algieri has spent years perfecting his running away, volume punching, touch but little damage style. Suppose, for the first time in his career, he decided to abandon his usual way of fighting and just rushed Pacquaio. This would have given Pacquaio an opportunity to get a career highlight KO. Pacquaio is just levels above Algieri. Pacquaio outlanded Mayweather, landed the harder punches, and hurt him more, yet Algieir would stop him?
Algieri wouldn't have won. I'm not sure if anyone is arguing this, but he wouldn't have looked as bad in defeat. The fight might've been closer. Plus, Algieri has an immensely better trainer than what he had against Pacquiao. You know, the clowns who said Algieri was about to knock-out Pacquiao or that he was about to let him out of the cage? Also, Algieri is a large guy. He was really using his size in there against Khan.
Difference is Pac hits VERY hard no way chris could of attacked him every time he tried Pac cought him and chri got worried about the power chris was excellent against talor but against guys like ruslan and Pac he had to run Power is very valuable tool and when you top it of with the other skills Pac has its great
Chris could of angelo dundee he would still get ****ed up by Pac pac hits to hard and is just far advanced with khan he didn't respect his power
You could make a point saying how he would do better if the fight was somewhat competitive but Pac absolutely destroyed him it was scary to watch how easy it was
:good Chris got dropped six times by Manny en route to an almost historic points beating (119-103 twice and 120-102. I can't think of many anywhere near that). Had he applied the same style against Manny, as tough as Algieri is, he would have probably been ko'd within 4 rounds.
:thumbsup A half decent corner would have thrown in the towel well before the end. It's their job to protect brave fighters who are getting a severe beating and who have zero chance of winning the fight.
He was the same size when he fought Manny!! As someone mentioned in a post in this thread, it is about different levels of effective offence and power. Manny is simply leagues above Amir, and had Chris fought against Manny as he did against Amir, the fight would probably have been over within four rounds. But then, a good trainer would not have advised Chris to fight Manny like he did Khan (Amir's frailties and lack of power are no secret).
He looked a lot bigger in there against Khan. I didn't get any fight night weights so it's just an eye-test. Yeah, I'm not saying at all that Algieri would've beaten Pacquiao, but I think it wouldn't have been such a horribly bad performance from Algieri. Algieri was literally bouncing around the ring, oftentimes severely off-balance. He really didn't know what to do in there. I think with a better trainer it would've been as bad. I'll repeat myself again, though. Algieri wouldn't have won.
He would've been ****ing obliterated, somebody claimed it'd be a pick 'em fight if he prepared and fought Pacquiao like that, that's a simply outrageous and illogical claim, what happened to Margarito, Cotto, Hatton, and Rios when they assumed they could walk the little guy down with pressure? You know, legitimate pressure fighters who've had great success turning it on? It didn't work out too well. It's exactly the same dynamic as somebody believing they can outbox Mayweather, what happened to Canelo and funnily enough Pacquiao? You just don't even contemplate it. Algieri would've got eclipsed! That would've been ridiculed to high heaven, his strategy was naive but at least it wasn't suicidal, he got knocked down 4 times legitimately, if he'd gone in like that, I don't care how good his chin is, it would've ended up in the damn waterfront of Macau. Khan is nothing like manny so it worked in patches against him. He's fast and used to love the mid-range lunging except he never knew when to back off and didn't have the same power in his combinations.
I didn't realize people were arguing that he'd win but he definitely would've done alot better I think.
I just can't see it, I think many are thinking well, what's the worst that can happen after being beaten 12-0 and knocked down 4-6 times? Well, he most likely would've been knocked out so I guess he would've done better, Pacquiao had the power to introduce Algieri to the canvas several times when he was on his bike and avoiding getting hit flush.
