That version of Ali was having serious problems with the sparring partners brought in to get him " Ready" for Holmes, by most eye witness accounts. No way he should've been allowed in the ring against Holmes.... And he definitely shouldn't have been allowed to absorb the prolonged beating he took
Nothing is ever guaranteed in a professional fight, but the results of Holmes vs Ali was as close to a guarantee as one can get.
If Ali did find someway to Beat Holmes he'd be considered what most of us with two eyes already consider him to be. That's the G.O .A.T at heavyweight.
Holmes on the other hand would be seen as a marginal heavy champ at best.
A Holmes loss would've hurt his legacy much, much more against that version of Ali than his win helped it.

Not necessarily...it's Ali we're talking about. Obviously Ali was a shell of himself at that point, but I can think of way worse ways for your career to get derailed than getting knocked out by Ali. Just saying.

Some people view the Young loss as just a bad day at the office against an annoying opponent with an annoying style. It's more forgivable because Ali was pretty much done at the elite level at the point and had nothing left to prove anyways, he just hung around for the money and spotlight.

I don't think anyone would care about the Young loss except the harshest of critics if Ali actually managed to beat Holmes who would go on to have a HOF career. That would probably be more shocking than Douglas beating Tyson given how bad Ali's health has declined and how good Holmes ended up becoming.

Sounds like your deflecting by bringing up Tyson and Douglas? Try to stay focused on the the topic at hand.

I think his resume is pretty much untouchable anyway.

He's the GOAT and nobody can convince me otherwise. His record speaks for itself. Off the top of my head, legitimate Heavyweight ATG's that Ali beat:

    Liston x 2
    Frazier x 2
    Norton
    Foreman
    Patterson

Top class guys (including LHW who stepped up) underneath that who Ali beat:

    Lyle
    Shavers
    Terrell
    Cooper x 2
    Folley
    Moore
    Bugner x 2
    Williams
    Ellis
    Quarrey
    Chuvalo
    Young, etc

    It's a peerless CV.

If he beat Holmes, especially in his condition (and I think it was the Parkinson's rather than age, 43 year old Holmes was a much better fighter than 38 year old Ali) Ali would unquestionably have one of the greatest resumes across all weight classes. Even if was an extremely tight fight and Ali squeaks out a split decision. Hell, even a draw would be very impressive.

But if he lost to a lifeless Parkinson Ali like the one we saw, trust me, Holmes will take a MAJOR hit in his legend. Yes it is Ali, but that was Ali in named only that was losing to 7 fight Spinks. This was NO were near the Ali of the Foreman fight or even the 3rd Norton fight.

Only way Ali was winning that one was if Holmes had a heart attack.

But yeah, beating Holmes would have made his resume untoucheable at HW as far as I am concerned.

I was focused on the topic. Lose the attitude it's my thread and it's unnecessary, I brought up Tyson vs Douglas for a reason.

I don't know but one thing for sure.

Ali would rather die than retire after a win over prime Holmes

I already have Ali #1, although I can understand the arguments for Joe Louis. All I'm saying is a Holmes win would skyrocket his career to untouchable heights. I don't think anyone would be able to touch it for 100 years.

He definitely would if he kept fighting the best opponents of the 80's in his condition.

I know you brought up Tyson and Douglas for a reason and its called deflecting. If you dont want to be called out on it then dont do it.

Btw for someone whos universal reply is "You dont know **** about boxing" to everyone who disagrees with you then you turn around and Say I have an attitude is hilarious and is also deflecting.

It wasn't a deflection, it was an example to show how shocking the upset would be if Ali won. That was all.

Lmao how is that my catchphrase? I literally can't remember the last time I wrote that. I don't give a damn what you think of me and now you're ironically going way off topic (again). Take your own advice or I'll just block you.
